Well after getting rumbled by the leagues big hitters a couple of comfortable wins later and a host of other results sends us into the new year with a 14 point gap to 5th. Putting that into perspective, everyone outside of the top 4 is closer to relegation than us. Happy days. :D

Mallorca lost against Granada yesterday (1-0, in another weak away performance) and unfortunately finishes the first half of La Liga in the relegation zone (18th placed with 15 points, only behind Celta due to goal difference).

The team is competitive at home, but we've only secured 1/30 points away. It's very unlikely we can avoid relegation like this, but it really is expected given the weakness and lack of experience of our squad. Hopefully some good signings will arrive, but it's unlikely... the club's board says they have long term plans for the club and aren't too worried about the result of this season, which nobody expected would take place in Primera. To make things worse, last placed Espanyol and 17th placed Celta have much better players and a lot more money to spend, so unless they completely mess up, they will escape the relegation battle soon.

On the plus side, the team is committed and the players play their heart out. We will also face many of our direct rivals at home, so hopefully we can rack up decisive points. It's essentially Mallorca's only chance.

In less than an hour, Mallorca will face third level team Zamora away in the 2nd round of the Copa del Rey. Hope it goes better than the first round, when we only managed to scrap an embarrassing 94th minute 0-1 win against 5th level amateur team El Alamo.

Against a 3rd level team, we should definitely win of course, but we are so bad away from home that I can't be sure about any away game. We've only managed to secure 1 out of 30 La Liga away points, and if we don't count that lame victory against an amateur team in the first round of the Copa, we haven't won a single away game since 8 months ago. So, let's do this. It should be easy, but we can't relax.

0-1 win.

A mediocre performance, but enough to secure a spot in the round of 32, for the first time in 8 years.

Yesterday evening first match for FC Utrecht after the winterstop.
3-3 away vs PEC. Not a good debut for new goalie from PSV Jeroen Zoet but hey, a point is a point

Mallorca got kicked out of the Copa del Rey after losing 3-1 against 2nd tier Zaragoza.

Not really surprising... we suck at home, we were playing bench warmers, and our priority is clearly set on avoiding the drop.

Always a shame to go out, but it's probably better this way.
