lol, IK. Yeah, you guys have the great lakes that's why... You can't really compare your great fisheries to ours in the Northeast. Do you ever fish for Atlantic/landlocked salmon, Sherrif? you would be in for a fucking surprise if you hooked one of those on a 5 wt. fly rod lol, trust me, they are no joke. I know NY has some really nice ones, not sure if your area does though. My state does have some of best Landlocked salmon fishing in the country though, someone I know caught a 7 or 8 lber (28") this month, was fucking ridiculous.

No we don't have landlocked salmon anywhere around here. They live in The big lake and come up the rivers to spawn when they are 3 to 5 years old. I like to fish for them in the river and not on the big lake, it's just more fun to me. Trying to haul in a 25-30 pounder in a current and avoiding snags without breaking your line is a challenge.

agreed, flowing water is more fun. may go to our "big lake" in Maine tomorrow for fly casting to salmon off shore, they're in spawn mode right now along the rocky shoals/beaches

Ya they spawn here in the rivers on the gravel bottoms. It's pretty awesome to see them going up stream and jumping rapids and small water falls in the rivers and smaller streams and creeks. When I was a kid they were so thick here the river would turn black at times because it was just full of fish. They cut way back over the last 20 years and took away snagging and spearing them. That used to be a blast. I'm glad we can still spear pike through the ice though, that's fun as hell too.

Thats cool. Our state bans spearing/gaffing through the ice but we are allowed to spear suckers (white suckers) in the spring when they are spawning in rivers. Sometimes big trout come up during the sucker spawn runs and eat their eggs. We have some good pike fishing though i prefer trout and salmon.
