caps lol wtf. why? they paid lot more for mantha than hall got paid.
It's a good trade by both teams
Caps clear off 2.75mil for next 3 yrs, and Vrana is due for a huge raise from his current 3.3m. So they added the better player, while cap controlled during their window. Now they won't have problems paying Ovechkin. They gave a low 1st in arguably a weak draft year, 2nd in 2022 which stings but at least they have a top 6 player locked up. Vrana had problems with the 3 previous coaches in Washington and it seems like he struggled the most in lavi's current system.
For Detroit, Yzerman gets a similar performing player back while stocking up on draft picks. He won't have any problems paying Vrana, but also have the option to be offer sheeted to collect more draft picks if he wants. Vrana also gets the opportunity to play 1st line, get a lot of minutes and literally do whatever he wants since he's in a rebuilding team opposed to playing for a contender with an expected system to follow.
