if that's true, the yotes owner&GM really fucked up lol
obviously value wise it's not great, but they'd be saving ton of money which was their main intention and getting 1,2,Virtanen out of it. Sutter's contract is gone next year and it's not much of a cap dumb compared to eriksson.
Good thing OEL saved the day with his deadline.

where's the rumor from? cuz from what i've heard it was a pick, prospect, roster player, cap dump player.

2nd, lind, virtanen, sutter/eriksson they agreed to it except for the prospect, they wanted either hog/pod or demko.

the rumor was from a Coyotes beat writer. AZ wanted Hogs/Podz/Demko but Benning offered picks instead. looks like Yotes wanted the trade do everything - stockpile assets, shed cash and still be competitive. and Benning ALMOST acquiesced.

https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/how-nate-schmidt-narrows-the-gap-between-the-canucks-and-the-nhls-cup-contenders-2799839

this is a pretty good article, showing the impact of schmidt, and not just relying on hughes to easily bring puck into oZone and out of their zone with ease.

the team addressed one of the most major issues, horvat's line is gonna have such a good time now, dont have to play much harder than they usually do by dump and chase & fight for the puck THEN make plays. Rather set up and have the backend feed them ez pass.

just gotta pray Holtby/Demko can play decently enough to make up for the loss of markstrom's godlike play. 20+ expected goal saves than anyone in the league is pretty damn hard to replace.

oh weird, first time hearing that. Multiple rumors said it was just 1 pick, a high one , roster player, prospect (lind), and cap dump, most likely sutter. Arizona was pushing hard for demko or at least hog/pod but benning didn't abide to that so deal was off

if yotes wanted to do everything, they shoulda traded with boston lol, better assets

so apparently Benning offered a 1st, 2nd, Sutter and Virtanen for OEL

in hindsight it would've been an awful trade. still can't retain any of the UFAs, no room for Schmidt and essentially no assets to trade left. supports the theory that Jimbo fell into a pot of gold.

If this is true management in AZ should have been fired.

We are lucky this never happened.

might miss the playoffs next season so the 1st = maybe high pick, 2nd = decent prospect, virtanen = roster player and sutter = dump. but AZ seems to have wanted prospects ready to play rather than drafting in the future - makes sense as they could have them on ELC's and save as much as possible.

Hoffman is still on the market.

I wonder if the Canucks are still in the hunt.

they are but they cant do shit til they figure out how to move cap,

i dont see how he will move someone without paying picks.

I prefer him to just send bae/eriksson down minors to save 1 mil each, then sign virt/gaudette/leivo.

I remember leivo being good along the boards and he was decent with horvat too.

If they really can sign him I don't see why they don't trade picks to move cap.

Just think of it like you're trading picks for Hoffman.

Either Benning doesn't want to do it because it'll be like publicly admitting he signed bad contracts or (like Drance was suggesting) the numbers aren't where the Canucks want them to be and Hoffman is still trying to play the leverage game.

I think it's cuz they want 1st and/or 2nds. Otherwise they would've been moved months ago and kept toffoli. Also Hoffman would be just a 1 year commitment.

My guess right now is that Benning has an offer for virtanen, but they aren't making it official so that he has more time to see if they can move out some players, especially Sutter for cap space. However they're probably asking for too much, and they'll make it official right before his arbitration day then buyout Sutter. I don't think he wants to have any dead cap for 2022 season.

hoffman has to be a 1-year deal so paying too much to dump cap ends up basically the same situation as toffoli

Hopefully it is a one year show me deal. Anything else would be dumb.

Let him come to Vancouver for a year to keep us competitive.

He can pump up his stats then some other sucker team can sign him for long term.
