Braves' ownership had two opportunities last Spring and Summer to avoid this bidding war. They didn't.

If I have to watch Freeman play in a Dodgers jersey...

Sources: Atlanta Braves acquire slugging 1B Matt Olson from Oakland Athletics.

Well, that's that.

Damn that's literally the end of an era. I can't blame Freddie, he accomplished what he came after. He started when the Braves were absolute shit in the early 2010s
It's more of a front office issue (if they had extended him a year or two ago perhaps they wouldn't have been in this situation having to part with the face of the franchise/fan favorite)

Next man up Acuna?

It's brutal to lose Freddie and the prospects but they replaced him as well as they could have on the field. Getting Olson for 8yr/$168 is a bargain compared to paying Freddie $30/m a year paying him for later years in his career. Olson is probably the better player at the moment and is 4-5 years younger. So when it comes to production this might be a huge win long term. It just really sucks to lose a franchise icon like that.

With his personality, it'll probably be Acuna.

And the blow feels much worse coming off their first World Series win in 26 years. I think Olson will be a great addition to the team, and the Braves locked up a hometown kid for the prime of his career, alongside Acuna, Fried, and Albies.

With Freeman still unsigned, it's pretty clear the Braves', as a mid-market team, couldn't compete money-wise. But it'll be interesting to see the terms of his deal. Also, Rizzo back to the Yankees on 2yr/$32M.

Sucks he went to LA but AA and the Braves made the right call. Especially with the extension Olson signed. Basically getting Olson through his prime for less what Freddie’s back end years.

How do the Braves keep getting these people to sign cheap contract extensions.. Acuna, Albies and Olson locked up cheaply for the next 7 years.

Definitely a great move by AA and the Braves.
