I agree that he should be untouchable, but he declined an extension last year.
However, he is not untouchable because if he doesn't agree to an extension, he will be a FA next year and I don't see the Sox allowing him to walk away from nothing when he alone can add 3-4 players to a bottom 5 farm system.
Yes we can rack at Fenway, but it doesn't mean much when the opposing team can rack the same against our ass pitching staff.
I know a game is not over after the 3rd. I don't actually have that mentality lol.
I'm saying the pen is trash, yes. But we didn't spend anything on it. Nobody should be expecting anything from the pen. When the SP is poor like the Red Sox this year, combined with the pen we have, it's really hard for this team to win once they fall behind, even with the #1 or #2 offense.
And I don't think you're looking at the SP numbers correctly.
Porcello worst ERA in majors for a starter.
E-Rod 4.3 ERA
Sale hit 4.7 ERA
David Price 4.36 ERA, but his last 4 starts ruined his year.
Eovaldi had 4 starts with a 6 ERA
Cashner 8 ERA in 7? starts
5th starter? Oh, we didn't have one all year until Cashner was acquired....good pickup. Spot 5th starters -- Weber, Hector, Johnson, Smith....feel free to check out their stats.
4ERA can get you wins...not if every single one of your pitcher is above that every night
The 2 other starters you mentioned have small sample sizes, cashner on the season been in the 4s untill recently. But i agree the sps has been bad but your bullpen has been equally as bad was my point. Which is a relatively cheap and essier fix versus a sp fix. Dmg control is key, which your team seems unable to do. And when i was referring to relief help I was referring prior to the season starts, after losing kimbrel, kelly etc. Wasnt much hope going into the season and setup to fail. Not sure why you guys just didn't pay him.
