Zidane rotates a lot. Modric has played more minutes in the league than Isco, Asensio, Kovacic.... pretty much everyone in midfield, except Kroos (simply because his body can take more playtime) and Casemiro (he has to play since our only other DM, Llorente, is obviosuly not as good). To put things into perspective, Cristiano has only played 2 more Liga games than Modric. Zidane just rotates everyone, it's why we are always so strong during the last 4 months of competition, of course Modric isn't going to have played 30 league games so far.
In fact, Zidane is especially careful with him, because he knows that his body isn't the same as it was 10 years ago, and he doesn't want to risk losing him for the bigger games, by playing him too often. If you're so interested in stats, then you will also see that in the CL, only Casemiro has played more minutes than him.
Of course Cristiano is motherfucking Cristiano, but just compare the games where we played Modric and the ones we didn't... we play like garbage without him, he is so vital to the team. Anyone who regularly watches Madrid play will tell you that he is our keystone.
