Must decide by tomorrow on offering Koji Uehara and Kevin Millwood arbitration or not.

I doubt we will offer Millwood arbitration because of the chance he accepts it. If he accepts it we would be stuck with him for another year paying over $10MM.

I do hope they offer Koji arbitration. Best case scenario he accepts it and we eventually come to terms on a two year deal. Worst case scenario he leaves but we at least get a draft pick out of him.

Yea it is basically a win-win scenario in Koji's situation for us. I think they will offer him arb, and he will decline.

According to Zrebiec, Victor Martinez is one of our top off season priorities. V-Mart is a huge upgrade over Wigginton and Atkins at 1B that is for sure. He would be a very good hitter to slot in the 3 hole behind Markakis. I wonder if the feeling is mutual and they will offer him enough to come here since I know Detroit is interested in him.

Only thing I wonder is where are we going to find a power hitter to hit 4th if not one of the free agent 1B? Do they think Beltre can repeat last season and overpay to get him? A trade for Reynolds? Luke Scott? A trade for Fielder or Gonzalez?

if Gonzo came to the Orioles, the Orioles would be a legit contender in the AL East

According to Ignacio Serrano of El Nacional, who broke the story, Martinez turned down a four-year, $48MM offer from the Orioles and a three-year, $48MM contract from the White Sox.  Martinez is represented by Octagon.

A day in the life of an Orioles fan.

Victor Martinez signs with the Tigers for $2mil more than the O's offered. Turns out O's made the offer last week and V-Mart never even returned another call ... he had no interest in playing 1B or playing in Baltimore (and why should he) ... if the O's really wanted him they were going to have to overpay and offer him at least a 4/60 deal ... not worth it so it doesn't matter much to me that we didn't get him but it proves that Buck won't be able to lure any stars to Baltimore like he thinks he could.

Willie Randolph officially named bench coach ... I like it.

They don't offer Kevin Millwood arbitration ... he's gone thank God.
They don't offer Koji Euhara arbitration ... now if he leaves not only do we not have a closer but we also don't get a draft pick out of him ... and some O's fans wonder why we are always in last.

Turns out we didn't end up placing a bid on Nishioka. Hopefully we trade for Bartlett or Hardy without giving up David Hernandez.

Free-agent notes: Lee, a Type A free agent, was not offered arbitration by the Atlanta Braves, meaning the Orioles would not lose a draft pick if they signed him. … The Orioles did not bid on Japanese shortstop Tsuyoshi Nishioka, who was posted by the Chiba Lotte Marines.

In other news even the #1 Orioles homer and #1 Orioles apologist Steve Melewski is even starting to realize the O's may not ever get a prized FA.
Quote
They need to stop coming close and actually get someone good. The time for that was well, years ago, but it didn't happen then but needs to happen now or sometime this offseason.

We all know the O's are going to have overpay for a key free agent. Some might say they did just that in this case. It's reaching the point that they may have to go beyond overpaying to offering a crazy contract to get something done.

They just are not going to be able to get anyone while maintaining any constraint or fiscal sanity.

melewski has been extra terrible this year, so him actually coming into reality is a pretty bad thing lol.

I'm pretty pessimistic that anything good will happen this offseason, although im keeping my fingers crossed.
