The thing with Hierro though, he played in midifeld for a chunk of his career. He also took pretty much all the penalties and most of the free kicks once Hugo Sánchez left the club or was out inured (often during his last two seasons in Madrid).

Koeman was also his team's main penalty and free kick taker. His stats from the 11 meter mark were pretty sick, 46 out of 52 attempts.

Imagine how many goals he'd have if he hadn't spent most of his career playing alongside "penaldo". He'd likely be at least contesting Hierro's spot at this point.
