I'll clear it up.

Scales are the most effective armor in arena because it is the most balanced compared to what most arena mobs are. Most mobs are 2/3 physical and 1/3 caster in appearance. The scale has physical defense just a little bit under chain/plate, but has a fair amount of magic defense. So over time the scale will average out better because of its balance.

But Plates and Chains still have their effect. Take Mirror Maze for example. Since it mirrors you and the ones who attack are melee, wearing plates and chains is a must considering only melee attacks will be done to you.

Plus, plates/chains can stop melee mobs all the way. Scales wouldn't be able to completely shield a melee mob but its balance allows it to take the least amount of damage over time.

So now this is how it works.

Robe/Padded = Best at Tanking Casting
Leather = Balanced with a little more focused on casting side compared to scales.
Scales = Balanced with more focused into melee side.
Plate/Chain = Tanks Melee Mostly.

All the armors serve their own purpose. Scales purpose is to be balanced and if you have a very high EE scale, its balance just keep increasing even more.

Ok i think i got it for ee.

But if im using a nonEE armor on lvl 55 , lets say with 50 dex. And im a hybrid char with ..lets say ~60 int~

Should i be using a scale or a chain?

there all pretty close but different depending where u are and what level u are

Look at the graph, the Scales are higher where the EE is at zero on the Graph. Which means Plates/Chain tank a little bit better if there is no EE on the armor.

Chain 55 = 58,86
Chain 65 = 87,06
Scale 55 = 63,16
Scale 65 = 90,79

Thats for arena, chain's will be a bit better.

145,92/153,95

So chains will be 5,3% better for you.

Oh and crit strikes ignore defense so your amount of dex doesn't matter when it comes to choosing armor type really.

i thought you need dex to reduce the dmg done by mobs when they crt you ?

Dex is independent of what armor you wear.

The amount of damage done by a crit is just based on your dex and not your armor.

why are we so pro?
