Reason being is that not everyone is in the game game room at once. its more of just a RPG.

Hey guys just because you play with 8 people at a time doesn't mean it isn't a MMORPG. It's simple... it's a RPG and it may not be massively multiplayer online but it's massively popular online there's around 700,000 people playing on each realm at a time. So in my opinion it is a MMORPG as you may not all be in the same game at the same time but you can have: 8 players in a game, 25 players on a friends list, around 30 people in a channel(i think).

So im going to vote: Yes Diablo II is a MMORPG

thats what i think too.
its that you can play with some1 online, and there are 1000s of players. thats what makes it mmorpg

Quote (Wikipedia)
A Massively-Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) is a type of online computer role-playing game (RPG) in which a large number of players interact with one another in a virtual world. As in all RPGs, players assume the role of a fictional character (traditionally in a fantasy setting) and take control over most of that character's actions. MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player RPGs by the game's persistent world, usually hosted by the game's publisher, which continues to exist and evolve while the player is away from the game.

Though MMORPGs have evolved considerably, many of them share some basic characteristics.

*Traditional Dungeons & Dragons style gameplay, including quests, monsters, and loot.
*A system for character development, usually involving levels and experience points.
*An economy, based on the trade of items such as weapons and armor, and a regular currency.
*Guilds or clans, which are organizations of players, whether or not the game actively supports them.

that should do it.
