A blog seemed like a good way for me to post things I have written or contributed to d2jsp in a consolidated place, seems easy to keep track of and may be it will help some people too.

I do ask that no one post here please.

Here is a basic and simple guide to get your IRC set up and functioning for your guild members.
This basic guide will be written with MOZILLA / FIREFOX users in mind. In my experience it is the most simple and fastest way to get situated.

Getting Started:

1) Send Njaguar 1,000 fg. With the note IRC GUILD CHAT
2) Wait for Njaguar to personal message you that your guild chat is now ready.
3) Once Njaguar has confirmed your IRC now exists for your guild, you will have a new button which says "Go to Guild Chat"

4)Click your button, Go To Guild Chat. You may encounter an error, something to the effect "Your browser does not have support for Internet Relay Chat (IRC).
5)To fix this problem, go to this link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16
6)Install ChatZilla add on for your firefox browser. Restart your browser and try again to connect.

IRC Channel Usage:

As a guild owner, you are the SUPER OPERATOR (sop). Everyone other person to join the IRC channel is a basic user. When you first enter your IRC channel, you should register a name. In order for Njaguar to make the guild owner the channel admin, you must register. All other users must be registered if they would like operator status assigned by the channel admin.

To register:
type: /msg NickServ register YOURpassword e-mail
example: /msg NickServ register iamnew newtoirc@yahoo.com

This will send a confirmation email to your inbox. Follow the instructions to register your name.

**Once your name is registered you will be asked to authenticate the name you logged in as.
Use this command: /msg NickServ identify YOURpassword
example: /msg NickServ identify iamnew

Once you have received and followed the instructions, you will need to message Njaguar and tell him your registered name so he can give you the SOP status of the channel. After he confirms you are now the SOP, close your IRC, reopen your IRC, log in using your password. You will have an ampersand (&) next to your name which signifies you are the channel administrator. For all other users, you simply have to do nothing.

Now that you are situated as the guild admin you are now able to assign operators and users a role or function.
These commands and definition of roles can be found here -> http://forums.d2jsp.org/index.php?showtopic=24661158&f=34

Other Basic Notes:

1) To join a different channel on the d2jsp server the command is /join #channel
*If you want to view the list of all channels on the d2jsp server, on your IRC window click IRC -> Join Channel...

2) To make your IRC user name automatically authenticate follow these steps:

On the tool bar on the top of the window click: ChatZilla --> Preferences
This will open a window. On the left side you will see a list of an IP address and some channel names.
Single left click the IP address 208.110.65.135.
This will change your window and on the left side you will see FOUR tabs. General , Appearance , List , DCC
Click the LIST tab. On the first box you will it titled AUTO-PERFORM. Click the ADD button.
In the dialog box type your password identifier command: /msg nickserv identify (YOUR password)
Click OK.

3) To change your user name, there is a small square button to the left of the text box. Simply click this.

Internet connectivity general issues;

1) Make sure there is no back-ground programs such as P2P networks running.
2) Clear your cache and cookies. If you have too much store on your computer you can lose all connectivity.
3) Go to start menu > programs > accessories > system tools > Disk Clean Up. This will delete temporary files and store internet pages (similar to clear cache but more manual, especially if you use multiple browsers)
4) Flush your DNS. Start menu > RUN > type CMD > Hit enter. On the command prompt type ipconfing /flushdns Sometimes too many name services can be stored and cause too large of a lookup table.
5) Renew your IP address. Start menu > run > type CMD > Hit enter. On the command prompt type ipconfing / release then type ipconfig / renew This should pull a new ip address from your DHCP.
6) Disconnect your modem and router. Remove the thick black cable (coaxial cable) from the modem. Remove all physical wires from the router. Turn off both devices for 30 seconds. Shut down all computers on the network. Then reconnect all devices and cables then turn on every computer.
7) Try to directly connect your modem to the network interface card (do not use your router). This will help determine if your modem is bad, router is bad or other issues.

If your connectivity issues persist try to use net analyzer utilities built into windows.

Go to start menu > run > type CMD > hit enter

On the command prompt type: ping 127.0.0.1 then hit ENTER
This command will ping your NETWORK INTERFACE CARD (NIC). This will help you determine if it is a local problem or an outside problem.

Next, ping your router, the router ip address differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.
To find the router Ip address type: ipconfig and hit ENTER

Your window will display something like;
IP Address - 172.16.0.1
Subnetmask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 172.16.0.1

Next type the command (in this case using my example)
ping 172.16.0.1 This will "hit" the router to see if it is receiving and send packets.

Next step, trying to ping outside address.
try to ping well known addresses
ping www.google.com
ping www.yahoo.com
ping www.msn.com

The next to try is using your netstat tools.
Open a web browser then go to your command prompt
type the command

netstat -n Hit the ENTER key.
You can see all of the active and listening connections. If there are connections Established but you are unable to view the webpages it means you're sending Data but you are not RECEIVING data. If you have no connections establish you need to call your ISP.

If the packets fail you likely have an outtage of some sort and call your ISP. If the packets are not dropped you may then start considering other things such as virus' or bandwidth issues or lastly physical wiring issues from the ISP to your house.

Ladder slasher lag and connectivity issues;

Connectivity issues:

I receive the error message "Connection to server failed"

Clear your cache and delete your cookies.
Using Firefox, go to tools --> Clear Private Data --> Select "Cache, Cookies, Offline Webpages" then click Clear Private Data Button.

Using Internet Explorer, go to Tools --> Internet Options. Under Browsing History click Delete. You then can choose to "Delete All" or Select the options of what you'd like to clear.

If You are still receiving the error "Connection to server failed" it could be because of a router or firewall setting.

If you're using a router, you need to make sure port 8181 is forwarded.

Routers differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. If you are using a Netgear router the router address is usually 172.16.0.1 if using a Cisco / linksys the router address is usually 192.168.0.1 .

When you type this address into a browser window it will prompt for a user name and password. Once you fill these in there is a panel on the left side. Find the panel that says port forwarding / port triggering.

Under the service type, click PORT FORWARDING then click ADD CUSTOM SERVICE.
This will prompt a box with several things:

Service Name: Ladder Slasher
Service Type: TCP/UDP
Starting Port: 8181
Ending Port: 8181
Server IP Address: 208.110.65.133

CLICK APPLY and close the router page.

If you are having a firewall issue it may be from Windows Firewall. You can allow exceptions through windows firewall.

Go to Start Menu --> Settings --> Control Panel. Find the Windows Firewall Icon. Double left click to open this.
When open, click the EXCEPTIONS TAB click ADD PORT.

Port name: Ladder Slasher
Port number: 8181
TCP

Click OKAY
Then click OKAY.

Another common problem is pop up and script blockers. A lot of browsers have built-in "pop up protection" or the active-x controls default to block certain things. Your browser may prompt you to "allow website" in order to connect.

These are the primary reasons your ladder slasher should not be working. Any other reason is usually an ISP or internet connection related issue.

In-game lag issues:
A lot of people experience or have concerns about lag. First people should understand that lag does exist in all places of the internet however there is ways to optimize your windows and computer to try to keep lag to a minimum.

As many people may have noticed after sometime or even immediately you can have delays or your ladder slasher game becomes slow. To resolve these issues.

Refresh your browser and reconnect to ladder slasher.
Close your browser and reopen ladder slasher.
Clear your cache and cookies. You computer can get so many things cached and cookied that you can actually lose all internet connectivity!
When you are connected to ladder slasher there is a slash command for quality.

/quality 0
/quality 1
/quality 2
/quality 3

0 is the lowest quality
1 is below average quality
2 is the default quality
3 is the highest quality

If this does not resolve your issue there is a few more things you can try.

Download and install the most up to date flash player.
The current version is adobe flash 10 found here http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

Another trick you can try is to lower the priority of your browser. Go to your task manager press and hold the keys: ctrl + alt + delete OR right click on your windows bar and click TASK MANAGER option. When the task manager appears there is 5 tabs. Applications, Processes, Performance, Netowking, Users.
Click the PROCESSES TAB. You will see all of the running processes on your computer. There is several types of processes. There is "user process", system process, Local Service process and network service processes.

Find your internet browser. It should say something like Firefox.exe or iexplorer.exe. Right click your browser--> Set Priority --> Low.
A message will prompt, click OKAY then close the task manager.
*Note* When you close your browser and reopen it, it will go back to "Normal process".
**Note** Do not change any other processes unless you know what you're doing. Setting a service too high or too low can make your system unstable and lead to issues.

Another method is to play in a lower resolution on ladder slasher. You may want to try the 640x480. Try to find something you're comfortable with.

Mouse and keyboard issues with correction check list:

1) Try Different USB ports.
2) Try Different PS/2 ports (the circle ones purple and green)
3) Try using 1 device as USB and another as the PS/2
4) If wireless, make sure the receiver is on.
5) Make sure there is a clear path of visibility.
6) Is there accumulated dust on your system components (Power Supply Fan, CPU heatsink, Video Card, Motherboard, etc..)?
7) Is your keyboard properly installed using the software CD's from the manufacturer?
8) Are all of your drivers updated?
9) Are your USB port drivers updated as USB 2.0?
10) Delete your mouse and keyboard and reinstall them letting windows selecting the drivers. (Sometimes using the built-in drivers negates compatibility issues)
11) Is there any Interrupt Request (IRQ) conflicts? (sometimes USB can take over position of another device and sometimes another device can take over position of USB which makes a malfunction)

Here is a list of default IRQ's

IRQ 0 System Timer
IRQ 1 Keyboard
IRQ 2 Cascaded with IRQ 9
IRQ 3 Default COM2 and COM4
IRQ 4 Default COM1 and COM3
IRQ 5 LPT2
IRQ 6 Floppy Drive Controller
IRQ 7 LPT1
IRQ 8 Real Time Clock
IRQ 9 SEE 2
IRQ 10 Open
IRQ 11 Open
IRQ 12 PS/2 mouse or Open
IRQ 13 Math Coprocessor
IRQ 14 Primary Hard Drive controller
IRQ 15 Secondary Hard Drive controller

To view your current IRQ assignments open Device Manager.

1. Click on START, click on CONTROL PANEL.
2. Click on Performance and Maintenance.
3. Click on System.
4. Click on the Hardware tab.
5. Click the DEVICE MANAGER button.

Once you have Device Manager open, select VIEW from the toolbar menu and then click Resources by Type.

If you do have a conflict and need to change an IRQ setting:

1. Right click on the device in the list (see above) and then select properties.
2. Click the Resources tab.
3. Remove the tick from the Use automatic settings option.
4. Select a non-conflicting configuration from the pull down box.
5. Click OK

This is all of my theories. Chances are in my opinion if the drivers are fine, if the devices are fine and the settings are fine it is a PHYSICAL problem. Most likely due to over heating or taxing the processor. In most cases if you're playing games you can consume too many or maximum resources and it can cause crazy behavior from your computer. The other problem could be heat. If you have dust on your fans, poor circulation from the wiring, poor venting and the air cannot escape it can lead to almost any possible problem.

The last thing I would suspect is the motherboard itself. Generally they don't malfunction unless it is degradation from heat or misuse.

Computer Regular Maintenance : For the smooth and efficient user

1) Clear your internet cache and cookies. This will improve your internet performance and computer speed. If too many things are cached on your computer, it is possible to lose connectivity entirely. I recommend you delete such files every 2 weeks.

Using Firefox:

Click Tools --> Clear Private Data
Clear the following items:

1) Browsing History
2) Cache
3) Cookies
4) Offline Websites
5) Authenticated Sessions

Using Internet Explorer:

Click Tools --> Internet Options
Under the Browsing History section click DELETE...

I recommend clicking Delete All... However if you want to keep your saved passwords individually go through the ones you would like to delete.

1) Temporary Internet Files
2) Cookies
3) History
4) Form Data (This is things you have typed multiple times into forms. This can severely slow down browsing experiences if you have too many things stored)
5) Passwords (This fills a password automatically for websites you have visited. If you want to keep your passwords filled in, don't do this.)

2) You should delete additional unwanted files. To do this you should use a system tool called Disk Cleanup. I recommend this once every week.

How to use Disk Cleanup

1) Start menu --> Program Files --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Cleanup
2) Click Disk Cleanup and it will open a window. Wait a few moments for it to analyze the files.
3) The next window will prompt the files you may want to remove. I recommend check all of the boxes. There is no critical files there. Choose the options you would like to delete.

Downloaded Program files
Temporary Internet Files
Offline Webpages
Recycle Bin
Temporary Files
Compress Old Files
Catalog Files For Context Indexer

Click OK.

4) Click advanced options button

There is 3 new buttons:

Windows Components (This IS NOT recommended.)
Installed Programs (This will open the add/remove programs window. Scroll down the list, if there is anything you do not use or recognize you may wish to delete it. Be careful to avoid things like your Virus Scanners, Java, Microsoft packages, Audio and Video Drivers, Internet browsers, etc. If you don't know what to avoid, do not use this.)
System Restore (This will delete all of the older system restore points. It will keep only the more recent ones. This is not recommended if you are unsure about restore points.)

When you are Finished Click OK.

3) Disk Defragmenter. This system tool helps make more space on your hard drive. When you delete a file it leaves a "void" on your hard drive. This pushes all of the empty places together and puts files where they belong. When you delete something, it is possible for files to get "separated" which means when you access an application your hard drive may have to search in more than one place to locate the entire file. I recommend using this utility once a week.

1) Start menu --> Program Files --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Defragmenter
2) Defragment

**This process can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 or 3 hours depending how long it has been. It is recommended you let your computer idle (do not use your computer) while this is running. If you execute a file it may make the entire process start over which will make it take a very long time.

4) System scanning. Virus scanning is one of the most important things for computer security and performance. There is a plethora of tools and utilities available. I recommend a complete virus scan one a week.

There is several free and very good programs for virus scanning.

Spybot Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware SE
Avira Antivir
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

5) Desktop and boot up. Has your computer ever loaded really slow when you reboot or turn it on? Chances are you have too many services on start up and or because you have too many desktop icons.

To make your computer boot up faster you need to use a utility called MSCONFIG

1) Start menu --> Runtype MSCONFIG and hit ENTER
2) This will prompt a window that has numerous tabs including:

General
System INI
Win INI
Boot INI
Services
Start up
Tools

3) Click Start Up tab (This will display all user programs that are running when you reboot or turn your computer on. Every program there is OPTIONAL)
4) You can turn off every program there. However, I recommend you leave a few things on such as Messenger Services, Anti Virus programs or anything you use every day, all of the time and immediately.
As example, I have my Avira and MSN messenger running on start up, everything else is disabled.
5) After you turn off the start up programs, click APPLY, then click OK. This will prompt another message that will say for the changes to take effect you will have to reboot. You can exit without reboot or you can reboot.

6) House keeping. Dust, dust, and more dust! This is the most common culprit for almost every problem imaginable with a computer. From bad performance to system failures! I recommend this once a month.

Here is a few things you can do to keep your computer tidy:

1) Clean your computer screen. Use a mild soap and water to clean your Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitors. For Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT) monitors you can use a glass cleaner.
**Do not use a glass cleaner or alcohol on a LCD screen. It can physical MELT the screen.
2) Clean your keyboard and mouse. Spilling soda and food can make the keys gunk up. Dirt can make your mouse jump. You can use a vacuum cleaner, mild soap and water to clean your keyboard. You can use a q-tip or cotton swabs to clean dirt from the optical mouse or mild soap and warm water for the ball mouses.
**If using a vacuum cleaner make sure to remove the keys from the keyboard or you could suck them into the bag!
3) Clean your computer tower externally. Use a soft COTTON towel. Do not use anything that makes friction or static. Do not place the tower on the carpet. Keep metal objects and paper away from your tower.
4) Clean your computer tower internally. The most common way to clean your tower is compressed air. It usually cost around $5 a can at staples, bestbuy, office depot and other computer department stores. (I know it is expensive and seems like a rip off).

Best practices while cleaning the inside of your tower:

1) Use compressed air or an anti-static vacuum
2) Remove components such as the Network Interface Card (NIC), Video Card, and RAM then place them into a static-shield bag.
3) When using compressed air I recommend the following;

1) Clean the fans first! Blow out the Power Supply Unit (PSU). Blow out the heat sink over the processor. Blow out any additional case fans. This is where dust clusters the most.
2) Clean the Integrated Components from the rear of the computer. Blow into the usb ports, ps/2 ports, all of the external ports that are integrated into the mother board
3) Clean the hard drives. Blow all of the dust from the hard drives and disk drives.
4) Clean the motherboard. Blow all of the dust from the top to bottom. Make sure to get into the slots where the video card, network card, and ram were.
5) After all of this, finally clean the rest of the tower. Blow all of the dust from the bottom of the tower and touch up on the residual that blew around or use an anti-static vacuum to suck everything out.
6) Replace the adapter cards and ram you had previously removed, make sure they are seated fully and properly.
**Note, when using compressed air NEVER tilt or shake the can. There is a liquid inside that can destroy computer components. Always hold it level and steady.

This is my regular maintenance for all of my computers at home. This will ensure a clean, properly running computer that will maximize component life and keep everything running strong.

The ladder slasher guild directory is one of my biggest projects ever. I have messaged 250 guilds, from the top spot all the way down to 29 guild point guild.
This enormous task was to pull all of the guilds together who support the ladder slasher community through buying guild points. It is one of my happiest projects I have taken on and from the feed back from guild owners and other users this is definitely the most rewarding thing I have contributed so far.

I don't really want to post the directory on this blog as it is a constant work in progress but I do want it saved with my guides.

The Fighter:

The fighter uses Swords, Axes, Clubs, Longswords, Spears, and Polearms. They use all armor and charm types.

Starting Attributes:

Strength: 50
Dexterity: 40
Intelligence: 10
Vitality: 50

The Traditional Fighter:

The traditional fighter is a standard concept of building for most Melee Characters. Most players use a Strength or Dexterity heavy armor and charms. Dexterity increases your chance to critical hit, and damage dealt when you critical hit. It also reduces damage when enemies critical hit you. Strength is used for increasing weapon damage. In general, you do not want to exceed 120 dexterity and all other stat points go in to strength. The weapon of choice is preferential, usually Swords, Clubs, and Axes with Enhanced Effect..

The Tank Fighter:

The tank fighter is a forefront character. The 10 starting points go in to Vitality. The tank also uses Enhanced Effect armors, generally chain mail or plate mail for higher defense. They also have 75-100 dexterity for the defensive gains and everything else in to strength to increase weapon damage. The Tank fighter generally has a lower average damage in turn for the higher defense. The weapon of choice is preferential, usually Swords, Clubs, and Axes.

The Brute Fighter:

The Brute Fighter is a character based around strength. They use strength armor and charms and strength for the stat points. Some variations may include a little bit of dexterity, as much as 75 Dexterity to gain benefit of some critical strikes and defensive gains. This character has very high average damage but generally lower critical strike. The weapon of choice is preferential, usually Swords, Clubs, and Axes.

Key points:

The fighter uses heavy armors, chain mails and plate mails. It adds extra defense which makes things much easier.
The first 3 classes, Fighter, Samurai, Paladin have the ability to share all of the items in common when using swords.
Dexterity items are generally cheaper to buy than strength items.
If you buy strength items, buy strength charms, as most classes can use them, unlike heavy armors, which are used by only the first 3 classes.
It is recommended to focus on 2 item sets. Swords + Staff (excluding warlock and headhunter), Axes + Daggers (excluding Warlock), Daggers + Clubs (excluding Warlock and Headhunter)
