It also makes me curious if arpgs just don't hold the same amount of attention as other games going forward. There are so many game options now people might have shorter attention spans because of time between releases. Many triple a titles are sold as live services now and people only have so much free time on their hands. To have another title release that requires too much playtime to and resets too often might have caused disappointment outside of it's already glaring flaws. If your product isn't up to a certain standard it's easier to drop because of the dozens if not hundreds of other live services.
Gaming has changed a lot over the past decade and it's become commonplace to release something incomplete and slap a live service sticker on it as well. I don't even have optimism for a game now when it's called a live service title. There's just too much predatory micros and increased grinds to try to hit AUE metrics. They're not interested in what's fun, but what extends or artificially inflates playtime for metrics as much as possible. I would say in many cases it has the opposite effect since players aren't stupid and realize what is considered a massive waste of time.
I thought that myself until I decided to play Poe again after a few years..... I've been sucked in for a month now so it's clearly not the genre.
