An individual gives it meaning. Meaning isn't something you can measure in a lab. It's a subjective interpretation.

Something that has a lot of meaning to you might not have any to me. And same the other way around.

Subjective means dependent on a subject, which in this means dependent on a conscious entity's (the subjects) interpretation.

The words on this page are subjective. To you and me they have meaning, but to a random person in China who can't read English they don't.

typically for communication we (as a people) agree to abide by already accepted definitions (not made up chit). one would think an atheist would be all about that. funny though they not.
