Can try lvl 10-15-20 rods and see what you have the most success with. Mainly easier catchs make it less frustrating.

does the tier of the rod effect the fish i catch?

for example can i catch t4 fish with an elm rod (t3)?

Im at rank 13 or something and it seems trial and error is the best…the only thing that determines rank is what lvl you are fishing…each 5 levels gives a new tier you can catch

You set the teir of fish you want to catch so highest you should push for a regular fishing event is lvl 15 for trout. So technically... maybe but you adjust the tier and use whatever rod

Big head does the math but if lose fish and takes longer to reel in, it goes slower.
