If the game sucked there would be a patch or an expansion that addressed that. Or it just wasn't successful. These early access/demo/open beta...... Etc is equivalent to dangling a carrot for years.
Most modern games AAA takes way too long to make. And compared to 2000's they suck dick. Sure the graphics have improved and it's nice, but so did the technology and the skills.
The budgets are infinitely bigger, blizzard has much bigger and more experienced team, unrivalled community support and ideas. And somehow they take x10 longer, x20 more expensive to make a game that's worse then the original like what the fuck happened you tell me?
But who's forcing you to be part of early access/beta if you dont like it?
A big reason for betas is btw to test the server capacity and functionallity.
Back in the days the data volume being transfered was a little less i would assume or the game wasnt even to be played online....
