Howdy

I've been trading on d2jsp for a while now, and I had an idea that I think could really help the community - especially newer traders.

The Problem:
We've all seen it happen. Someone posts asking "what's a Ber worth right now?" or "what is this griffon worth atm?" People give different answers based on what they saw last week, and new traders sometimes get lowballed because they don't know current market prices.

The Suggestion:
What if we had a simple price history graph for the most commonly traded items? Just a basic line chart showing the average FG price over the last 30, 60, or 90 days. Maybe even keep it 30 days simple.

Why this actually makes sense (in my head):

  • All the data already exists in completed trades and mediations.
  • Would take maybe 10-15 of the highest volume items (Ber,Jah, Soj, Griffon's, Shako, Anni, Toch, etc..)
  • Helps prevent lowball scams and gives everyone a fair reference point.
  • Filters for Ladder/Non-Ladder and SC/HC would be even more useful.

Example of What I'm Picturing:
You click on "Ber Rune" and see a simple graph showing it was 2800fg two weeks ago, spiked to 3200fg last week, and is sitting at 2950fg today. Nothing fancy - just transparent data everyone can see.

Please don't mind the same FG value - this is only a mockup.

I know price checking is part of trading, but having a quick reference would save everyone time and make the marketplace more trustworthy. Plus, it could help people time their trades better if they're trying to buy/sell.

What do you guys think? Would this be useful or am I overthinking it?

As much as I like this idea but I think it takes too much work to keep it up to date with the market.

Also, with mainstream items/runes, you can just search in the trading grounds for the current price.

Also, there would has to be some sort of filter mechanism to filter which trades are what and what if someone leaves the comment field empty? As many people do.

So how should the item/runes be registered?

I doubt this would be implemented to be honest.

That’s honestly a cool idea. Personally I’d stick to a price-checking thread though.

no, there's no automated data collection on what stuff sells for. and many deals are negotiated through pms

there's no way to do this without a) manually collecting, verifying and updating the data or b) have a binary sale/value system like the chinese joint has.

besides, the search function and price check subsection already hold all the answers

I was concerned with the maintenance. That would be the admins job to figure out, I simply thought it could be darn nice to see those mainstream item being sold to what type of price - so there is no chance of newbies to get lowballed but also just out of curiosity, to see what the price ranges are.

Appreciate your response tho!

I know. But statistically if 1/3 put in the reason of sending FG's like "shako" or somth, that would be enough.

It can be automated I guarantee you that. Even I could set that up for them :-)

This: besides, the search function and price check subsection already hold all the answers
My answer: Yes, if you search long enough. The whole idea was simplicity and less time consuming for the consumer.

I post item for 100fg
Someone offers 80fg
Via pm we reach an agreement of 90fg and they also wind up getting another item for 30fg.

The transaction (no clue how the exchange would be monitored) would show 120fg

So that item would now have a last sold at 120fg..

I'm kind of indifferent on this so I won't say yes or no but a private server for D2 I use that has there own trading market that uses a virtual currency too but they put item trades as public with the prices so anyone can look and see what xxxx items were last sold for. Obviously you can search the history dating back to when their ladder started and current time to see price drops n stuff. It would still have to be member ran with info, you'd still have to enter what item it was in the notes field.

Just a simpler take on what you posted.
