I don't believe in prayer, but I also don't believe in mocking people for their beliefs when they don't concern or affect me in any way. That "study" is $2.4m garbage too, people usually have family and friends pray for them, not a bunch of strangers.

I'd typically do something concrete about my situation or just let it happen.

id wager 1 in 100 atheists could be trapped in something like a landslide and just sit there and die. most atheists faced with death repent im sure. its easy to be a young atheist, harder to be an old one or a near death one.

Prayer is an absolutely meaningless gesture that accomplishes nothing, so I ask, why do you do it?

Here is an interesting study on praying:

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/no-prayer-prescription/

It seems prayer hurt the subjects more than helped.

Would you really interrupt your gods master plan for your own petty requests?

There is as much proof that prayer is meaningless as there is that it's meaningful. Why do you care if I pray?

You don’t pray for things to be different or easier than they are, you pray for the strength to endure the hard times and maintain the positive influence you have on others instead of turning into a burden out of despair.

I think it has the same positive effect for some people as therapy does for others.

The atheist prayer is to curse a god they claim not to believe in when they’re hit with hard times. I’m willing to accept that this probably has that same positive effect for them.

Atheists will always pray to a God they don't believe in when they're on their death bed.

My guy when christians get themselves into those situations and either crawl themselves out of it or have to be airlifted out by an expensive team they're always THANKS GOD! They have zero idea whats actually going on and how much power humans have over situations.

Then you have mental patients like Elite who think we need to be back in the stone age beheading people for speaking out against something that doesnt exist. Get outa here with this shit.

Often true but not always. God isn't the only solution to the problem. Buddhists are atheists and I doubt many devout buddhists turn to god on their death bed. They found another solution, so they don't need to turn to god. Western atheists don't have a solution though, so yeah, they'll either turn to god or, what I think is much more common, curse god.

Buddhists are not atheists. Atheism is the belief that there is no god or deity, but also the belief that there is nothing after death. Atheism removes the soul from the equation. Buddhists believe in Reincarnation. AKA a reincarnated soul. Buddhists do not have to worry over death itself. They will be reborn. Their concern is how they treat their fellow human, animal, and plant, as what they're reincarnated as depends on their behavior towards them in this life.

Meditation has been proven in thousands of studies over centuries to be of benefit to those who utilize it. And prayer is a form of meditation. The better question to the OP is why the fuck do you care what other people do in their personal time? Do you claim to be god, to dictate what others should not do when it does not effect you in any way?

No. Atheism is the belief that there is no god. Whatever you want to add to that is on you, but it is additional. Buddhists are atheists.

First, your definition is lacking. Second, it doesn't even hold true to Buddhists. Buddhism does have deities, as well as supernatural powers that will help or hinder people in their path to enlightenment. AKA, belief in both deity AND the supernatural? Opposite of even your definition of Atheism. Many Buddhists also believe that Buddha himself was a god. Which is weird. That the majority of Buddhists do not believe in a monotheistic creator god does not make them Atheists.

There are also people who believe Buddha was Satan.

edit- Not a dig at Buddhism or buddhists,
just sharing, there are those who Believe it was the same person/entity/being/etc
