I have mixed feelings about this.

First off, Adam don't think you'll be able to bot this game and make mad money like I think you're thinking. I highly doubt it will be that easy. If they are going to do something like this, all bases will be covered on their end. So with no bots, and you wanting to make money, be prepared to say good bye to your life. You will sell your soul to Blizzard just like is required in WoW.

Secondly, It is nice to see them come up with an answer to destroy all these D2 stores and have it all done legit through D3 interface iteself. That is nice. But remember, there will be a fee for every transaction, similiar to the one here on LS for selling on the MP. So, don't worry Activision/Blizzard will make there mad money too! Looks like the obviously want a piece of the pie, and they will be taking the whole piece.

And Lastly, my thoughts on it. As I said, I have mixed feelings. It's cool you have the potential to earn real money playing D3, but on the flip side, I hate the fact that I'm going to end up having to spend real money to play D3 and build my characters. I've done that with previous games, and I've done that with LS as well. I don't want to do that anymore, and I will not do it anymore. This fact alone completely turns off the game to me. If I have to spend money again to build my characters in another game, like D3, I simply won't play it. That's BS IMO. So, I will certainly buy the game, and try it out. Especially during the begining when it will be the most fun. If it turns out that for me to advance and build my characters the way I want is going to cost me $$. Then, I'm done. I won't play it and I'll find something else to do.

To me, I think I'll end up not playing D3 because of this system. Tell me, who the hell is going to sell there items for in-game gold? Please... The Real Money currency aspect of D3 will destroy the gold aspect. ALL good items will be bought with real money only. The idea is very flawed, unbalamced, and simply not fair to so many people/kids, and I can't believe Blizzard is doing something like this. Gotta feed the rich and Activion/Blizzard has to pocket mad profit. That is all it comes down too. Good ol' money making, at the expense of all of us.

Just my thoughts. It will be very interesting how it all turns out. I don't think we have all the details yet though.

EDIT: Re-reading through the FAQ section more closely... yeah... The real life/real money currency is going to dominate this game. The in-game gold is going to be garbage. The only way to really build, collect, and be good is to open up your wallet and bank account, and though that may be okay with a lot of people, it won't be okay with me. So I probably won't be seriously playing D3. But hey, I'm just pennies to Blizzard, so it doesn't matter. Wow... this just ruined my hopes for D3 :(

before, i would have jumped at D3 news. I havent even researched, cared, or followed this game for a long time. I like being able to spend 1-2 hours to play a game when i feel like it- even if its LS
I dont feel like becoming addicted to another video game atm

@Jim: The real life/real money currency already dominates d2... don't be fooled. Why do you think this site exists? Honestly, the fact that they're doing this changes absolutely nothing for the Diablo series itself. People who wanted the best in Diablo 2 still bought stuff—it’s not hard to figure out why Adam makes 40,000 fg every reset. With D3 making the auction like this, it’s a definite that they’re going to have seasons too.

Honestly, I couldn’t be happier knowing that Blizzard is making this move. I think it’s brilliant! Players will soon realize that this power play is a Win-Win-Win for everyone:
  • First off, ppl are going to spend RL $ in this game if they want regardless. D2 shops, this site, etc has thrived as a result. The Win is that we don’t have to worry about being scammed/ dealing with immature/rude/etc kids/no waiting on delivery/(unlike WOW not worry about being banned for $$$ trades).
  • Secondly, the biggest failure imo with d2 was hacking / botting. It ruined the game. I remember quitting d2 for the first time in .09 when Occy Rings etc came out. It was just dumb (although I owned every hacked item too that existed ;) ). Then there was the botting which floods the markets and gets ppl to lvl 99 w/o doing any work. Lastly, there is the crap where you trade gear and you never know if the crap is going to poof on you cause it’s a dupe?!? Basically, for Blizzard to overcome this as they pretty much have in WOW, they need to have a dedicated staff actively working on this. For this to perpetuate, money needs to be generated. What a perfect solution to make this happen—they taking a 5% fee off a MP that saves me the trouble of not worrying about being scammed, dealing with little pricks trying to scam me, and not worrying about being banned like in WOW cause it’s illegal.
  • Thirdly, I don’t have to pay a monthly fee like WOW to have a dedicated staff like in WOW that will focus on getting rid of the bots / hacks.
I love this and think the solution is PERFECT!!! I know D3 will continue to get the support it needs to be a quality game from the day it comes out to 5 years from now…

I don't feel like getting into a debate of opinions and spending money with you but I'll just say If your cool with spending money to be good, then this will be just the game for you.... I've long got sick and tired of the "Pay-To-Win" philospophy.

For me (paying to buy items, being good) having done it in the past with many games including LS, I am done with it and will no longer do it. It's not my game style anymore, I have more important things to spend money on.

I think that's why I will enjoy Skyrim so much. Buy the game, maybe an offical expansion or two, and that's it.
