I'd recommend this course: http://du.se/en/Education/Subject-list/Japanese/

It's free (at least if you live in Sweden, not sure aboout foreigners). However, it is available for foreigners too. Some people from Japan, USA, and Europe who has joined that course, I'm currently finishing up Japanese 1 ^.^ Going for Japanese 2 next term.

It's really good, lots of practice and high paced. First term you learn all hiragana/katakana + 144 kanji with the book called Genki 1. As well as all the grammar and some more over that.
