well ofcourse he has to do it subtly. he uses harnessing the elements as a type of magic, that takes forms in creatures called "furies" as in fury. everyone has them, is born with them, discovers them, or can obtain more in the wild.
the main character "Tavi" is furyless, which makes him unique. he doesnt focus completley on furies, there are alot of other aspects of the story. thats just how he incorporates pokemon into it. they have a major role, as do the roman legions. but its not like watching an episode of pokemon, where thats all its about lol ya know

Yeah I knew it would be subtle xD
I was just wondering. So the furies are actually creatures? I sort of read it as fury just being the name for the power they had which allowed people to control the elements.

well they are both really, they use their powers kind of like "benders" from the avatar series. but the people who are most gifted can summon them in their feral forms, that range from normal animal to outrageous creatures depending on the person.
the way he has set it all up is really cool and interesting.

I enjoyed this series, although I really disliked the Bernard/Amara plotlines.

Book #3 was B)

Read it a long time ago. Great young adult novel. The first book in the series was my least favorite. It just got better and better after book 1.
