My mom has a kobo which seems alright. Easy to download books online and convert to epdfs or w.e and then its just drag and drop.

Soo might just go with that, unless kindle is really all that! Doubt will get a tablet cause won't do much else, except i would load it with roms

kindle fire has more copyright restrictions on the files than the others, so I'd avoid that

I have a Kobo and can find just about any new books online for free. There is no reason to convert to epdfs because most books can be found in their native files as an epub. You use the Calibre software to sync your books to your reader kind of like ITunes with an Ipod. I have an Kobo touch and you access things wireless and also has a browser if through wireless if you need to look something up.

If you go for the kindle, get either the new small one (NOT the touch - I've heard it has many issues) or the previous version (the grey with the keyboard).

I have the Kindle ($79 version), and its awesome. Perfect size, non-expensive and quite speedy.

Can you download and install just about any book for free with the Kindle?

the classic kindle is great.. i just broke the screen on mine after near constant use for the past few years
it has a primitve web brower which looks similar to a grey and black version of what you see on a blackberry
free 3g over whispernet
the e-ink and cool screen keep eye strain at bay
i'm going to get another one of these instead of 'upgrading' to the touch or fire
