$909 is really overpriced for that d3100. that kit doesn't even come with tripod?
in my opinion camera kits is a way to make amateurs think they need whats inside the kit so they pay more for it
a body only would have saved you a plenty

good luck, i want to see the pictures you take :)

The d3200 is a newer model and has tiny improvements in a few areas in comparison to the d5100, but not enough in my opinion to choose it over the d5100. At least not if the d5100 is cheaper.

I own the d5100 and I love it, and that deal Xan found you is awesome. I couldn't find a good deal like that when I bought mine (especially hard when it has to be shipped to APO) so I basically just got the camera and one kit lens for about $750. You getting an additional lens, tripod, and case.

For that price, it's definitely worth it, and I honestly don't feel like you'd be missing out not getting the d3200 instead.

Yea that deal Xan showed me looks amazing, especially because it comes with the second lens/tri/case

There is a deal for the 3200 like that but it's 1k. But the d3200 has 24.3 MP and the 5100 has 16.4? Isnt 24.3 way way better?
(sorry im new to this so i assume more MP the more clear the pic will be especially if you plan on enlarging the pic)
I ask this because i plan on making big prints and framing/selling

It's basically just a size different for the image/prints, but it also depends on how many dpi you'll be using and how big of a print you'll be making.

If it's that important to you, then go for the d3200. The megapixels are really only big difference between the two cameras, and for me, that's not that important.

You said you have $3000 to spend, so $1000 for a camera and 2 lenses leaves you with $2000 to get maybe a couple other lenses to play around with, like the wide angle and what not.

It's definitely up to your preference. Quality-wise, both cameras are very comparable to eachother. So, it's just how important the size of the print is going to be to you.

if you`re decide...

decide which size your camera should have.. tiny... or bigger.. which suits your hands / need best?

The good think about a d7000 or 60D which is 300$ more expensive is that you get a secound screen, the big one on the back and the top one on the right which is really cool if you like to change settings really quick.
Thats also pissible because you have one more "weel" for exposure & aperature.. other than that it really doesnt matter which camera you get... either are fine.. just get good glass and maybe for the beginning "versatile" glasss... something wide - and sth with little zoom :) just find what suits you best, dont focus on anything :)

This. Its rare that youll print to your cameras full potential, with mp like that. If those are the two youre deciding between, google d5100 vs d3200. Thats what I did when I went camera shopping, and there are a ton of sites with great comparisons.

I've been going through review after review on the 3200/5100/7000 and I think the best choice for me as of right now is that deal
that you showed me Xan. I think that it's a great camera and for a novice like myself, I think I will be more than happy with this purchase.
It seems like it is the best option for me when i weigh all the pros and cons that fit my personal needs and wants. Thanks to everyone for being
so helpful and as soon as I get my camera I will start posting pictures! I can't wait!
