There are 2 types of scammers. Scammers who purposefully scam and scammers who are dumb. Many of my friends have been locked from loans... alternatively, I have 18k in loans currently out, not including my scammer accusations.
Issue: Site customers who are otherwise positive community members keep getting locked.
Protections against loans IRL: bankruptcy, max interest rate laws (often 36% annual), and judicial unconscionability.
What D2JSP offers: Structured repayments, locking, and sometimes interest forgiveness
JSP bankruptcy
As a d2jsp community member myself, I think it's important that we protect what members we have left. With 60+ scammer accusations about loans in the last year, usually including extremely active and otherwise trustworthy users, I think its quite obvious this is affecting the userbase. People who fall into the hands of predatory lenders in the United States are usually allowed to be forgiven. Yes, their 'records' are marked badly for years to come, but won't that be the same case here? I personally know a majority of people who have been locked already, but if I didn't, I could easily search names in the S/A and find them.
What does this mean? Bankruptcy is very implementable. A credit/"Scammer accusation" search already exists.... The only work the website would have to do to bring back a huge number of people would be to unlock them
Max interest rates:
The S/A team has seemingly started to forgive interest on loans, though this is not enough. People I'd trust with hundreds of thousands of fg are getting locked. I get it... Not every loan has to be under 36%, there are payday loans. Why is there a distinction? It is simple, our [local governments] agree that some loans can be used to teach a man how to fish. I would love to bankrupt my student loans, but I wouldn't if it cost me my education. It is fair. Charging people 1825% interest loans to gamble is not fair. In my most recent scammer accusation post, I declined to add that the same day
took a 5k loan, he had already taken a loan and paid it back, with me charging him an annualized 1825% interest rate over and over. This is not untypical; it is the 5% 24 hour / 10% 7 day structure you see over and over. Under the current rules, all my friends were loaning him and laughing about who he would scam in the end. pulling major profits. This is the reality of loans that come from the BNP section. There is no water or fish to find. Loans are almost always a losing game for the user, and therefore a losing game for the people who enjoy their presence and for the website that relies on their ongoing support.
Unconscionability:
It's not always as simple as something being right or wrong. I think that we can agree that nobody deserves to be taken advantage of. I think the scammer accusation team should follow their conscience more often. It is a fair use of your power and for the sake of our community, please do. The people who are giving these loans know that they will lock people and do not care. Do you think all the people taking the loans are capable of that same level of thought? I can personally attest that many of the locked users are not knowingly digging the hole they are digging. They are not knowingly making their own beds. Somebody is offering them a chocolate cake laced with laxatives. Should we blame them when they shit the bed or make them sleep in it? We need to protect the 'dumb' from the 'smart' and the 'prey' from the 'predators.'
Ultimate call to action: unlock all people who have loan scammed and forgive all loans
All said and done, I plan to continue lending to people until things change. It's a pretty fun gamble for me. I would also gladly give up all the FG I have loaned out to see people get unlocked. Additionally, I may post a part 2 suggesting that
lendees be allowed to post scammer accusations against people who have loaned them in the past at predatory rates to get the interest back.
To be clear if this gets approved I instantly lose 18k FG and 2 people who have scammed me get unlocked
