My teacher Baret Yoshida was going over a whole bunch of ankle locks and toe holds last night and he got me in a gnarley ankle lock and now my ankle feels really fucked up and when I move my foot and rotate my ankle it makes a clicking sound so I think some ligaments are slightly damaged :(

dont spend time fighing ankle locks, toe holds, knee bars, and MOST of all heel hooks! the problem with these is that your sitting there thinking "ah it doesnt hurt" and next thing you know it does and you have already done permanent damage. with those locks they often go from feeling nothing to 100%

we have a rule at my gym, if you get someone in a position and you wrap up a heel hook you dont even crank it for the tap, you let go and say you win. the training place is no place to develop injuries. leave your egos off the mat.

the fact that he would even crank a straight ankle on you forcing you to tap is stupid..

Prbjj your instructor is a blue belt right? What are you going to do when you're at the blue belt level? Are you going to train at another gym or are you going to continue to practice where you are at?

No, our head instructor is a purple belt with some stripes. The guy that runs our no-gi classes is a great blue belt but we often have a pretty high level wrestler help out and teach us techniques. We have a black belt that comes to do seminars and grades us while he's here. I plan to train at the same place for as long as I live here which is still looking long term. I love my gym and training partners, like my surrogate family. I'm sure you feel the same way, would you want to train at lloyds and then get your blue under someone else? haha :)
