Matt Schaub has increased his off-season workouts in recent days. He's making great progress and all indications seem to be positive that he's going to be ready for training camp. I expect him to have a great season and play a full 16 games in 2012. And hopefully he will finally experience the playoffs for the first time in his career, as a player on the field, and not from the side line with crutches and a cast on his foot.

I listen to the live radio-sports shows in Houston. 1560 AM The Game. I've got it on right now. I often times call in as "Ryan from Spring" to discuss the Texans, Rockets and Astros. The John Granato show at 6 AM is the best. It also airs on a local Comcast-Xfinity Sports channel.

If you don't live in Houston you can catch it all on-line (audio feeds, podcasts) etc... etc...

People say he's a mauler in the run game and plays with a mean streak. Gary Kubiak spoke highly of him on the Texans "Inside the Game" show the other night. He mentioned that the 6'5 and 340-pound Brandon Brooks impressed him with his athleticism and speed when they worked him out. They had him rated at the top of their board. He has the ability to play both guard and tackle and gives the Texans some future options but for now they expect him to be a swing guard -- depth behind Wade Smith at LG and Antoine Caldwell at RG -- but that he could push either guy for a starting job down the road.

I'm hoping that he can start over Caldwell, unless Caldwell can prove that he was worth the 3rd rounder a few years ago. I think he can start over either guys.
