MTX are what started the decline of Destiny. The entirety of D2 was setup to sell them. E.g. no random rolls on anything and tons of reskins, but all the unique armors being Eververse. A few free Eververse engrams per week to reel you in, but an ever increasing XP requirement to get there, so you'd be enticed to spend. $10 for an emote tells me they flat out don't give a fuck about anything as long as that MTX money rolls in. Call it pessimism but it says to me that the changes are only made to try and retain a playerbase that buys the MTX.
I said the same as you in D1, then had a problem when it was armors and ghosts popping up in RNG boxes for $. Nobody cared because they were having fun with the game. So I'd bet good money that we'll go down this road again with MTX decisions hurting the overall game.
Fair enough.
I just know that this a short-term thing for me. I have no delusions about Destiny having the capability of entertaining me long-term anymore, and I probably just don't care, hence me not worrying about things like this. You actually like the game though, and it seems like you and loads of other people are legitimately enjoying it (loving it even?) again for the first time since maybe D1. I understand your apprehension and I wouldn't say your thoughts are pessimistic, you're just being a realist. I honestly think Bungie is just bitter about all the money they missed out on early on while CoD and other franchises cashed the fuck in on MTX and they released either cheap or free content.
I'm sorry it looks like it's going that way... maybe Bungie will surprise you, but your gut feelings tend to be right about these things, and these companies are painfully predictable in their lack of appreciation and care towards the consumers that make them what they are.
E: Lmk if you feel like running some PvP or NFs tonight. Would be cool to run something with you (while you're still enjoying the game
), if you're up for it.
