Still four more weeks until the Texans play the Dolphins on Sunday, September 9. That first game of the season seems like forever away!!!!

I like what I saw from some of the young wideouts and tight ends against the Panthers in the 1st pre-season game. Lestar Jean had 2 receptions for 50 yards, Garrett Graham had 3 receptions for 44 yards and Keshawn Martin had 2 receptions for 24 yards.

I expect big things this season from all three players. Graham is going to make us all forget about Joel Dresseen as a productive backup Tight End. I think Keshawn Martin has great potential to be one of the best slot receivers we've ever had in franchise history because he's quick and small (always open). Schaub connected to him on one pass in the first quarter and he said after the game that Martin may become his favorite go-to guy.

Lestar Jean has great upside. He could be a future number two over Kevin Walter. He's actually a more explosive player than Walter and an Andre Johnson type clone. Jean has worked out hard this off-season. A 6'4, 210 freak of nature. He's even bigger than what I remember before his injury last year.

Didn't see a whole lot from DeVier Posey tonight. Even Jeff Maehl looked better than Posey. As did Juaquin Iglesias, who I don't expect to make the team. We selected Posey in the third round, which at the time I felt was a mistake because I was incredibly high on Lester Jean and Jeff Maehl but I'm glad we selected Keshawn Martin in the 4th round -- he's better than Posey despite the smaller size.

I guess Posey will be placed on the practice squad if he fails to make the team. I've got to be honest... Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Lestar Jean, Keshawn Martin and Jeff Maehl seem like the five WR's we'll go with unless Kubiak plans to carry six WRs. But it's early. Maybe DeVier Posey will impress us in the next three pre-season games. He better do something because he looked like shit last night. He looked like a guy who hasn't played football in a long time, which is true I guess, since he was suspended at Ohio State. I hate when we reach in the draft on guys who are flat-out projects when we already have some other young talent at the position.

And also mighty mouse aka the 5'5 Trindon Holliday can make the team as a kick returner and punt returner if he keeps making big returns. He nearly broke off a second TD on kickoffs last night -- went for 33 yards on the other one. So he could end up being that 5th or 6th WR on the depth chart over Jeff Maehl or DeVier Posey just because of what he does on special teams. Some of those other guys need to step it up on Saturday Night against the 49ers, mainly Posey.

ryan, there's 0 chance we put posey on the practice squad. any player you put on the PS, any team can pick him up. we'll probably carry 6 receivers if holiday is our starter at returner. johnson, walter, martin, jean, posey, and holiday.

posey will be a long term project imo, he barely played two games last year. dont expect him to play lights out.

Would another team sign him right now? Let them take on a project. I want to win right now with guys who can make big plays downfield. I posted on the Ohio State message board earlier today and they told me to be patient also. We'll see, I'm just not seeing what all the hype and fuss is about with this guy. We took him early in the third round after swapping picks with the Eagles so I hope he is as good as people saw two and three years ago when he last played a lot.

The Texans must be making a financial killing with those Xfinity ads on their practice jerseys. Roger Goodell said no to ads for a real game but it's okay for practices. I think eventually the NFL will follow the NBA's lead and allow corporate ads to every player's jersey during the regular season and playoffs. The NBA will start to do it in 2013.

Also, James Casey will be a beast this season. He has always reminded me of Chris Cooley from the Redskins.

Good interview with Owen Daniels. The background is kind of noisy with the practice machines and fans going on.

Between him and James Casey we need good years out of both. They're both reliable in the passing game and rarely drop a pass.

Garrett Graham has a chance to become a solid tight end just like Owen Daniels.

Watched the entire game last night and thought I'd share my thoughts on our players.

Connor Barwin and Brooks Reed are still playing great. Whitney Mercilus and Bryan Braman are going to be great backups. Mercilus had a 1.5 sack and Bryan Braman had a sack, but he was all over Derek Anderson in every passing plays. Braman was a nice surprise player that went undrafted, and don't be surprised if he gets more playing this season. I don't think we'll miss a beat at pass rush, even if Barwin and Reed gets injured, although I'd prefer if they didn't.
Tim Dobbins is a beast as well, he isn't afraid to get in the OL's way and make a stop. Also had 1.5 sack. I like him a lot better than Bradie James, but I'm not sure how well Dobbins can cover. Need to see more of both. Mister Alexander didn't stand out, but that can be both good or bad.

I hope Alan Ball keep playing as bad as he did because I was impressed with Brandon Harris. Harris had his receivers on shut down and had a big goal line stop. Kareem looks a LOT better, almost had an interception but he wasn't letting Cam Newton throw all over him. Our CBs should be Joseph - Jackson - McCain - Harris. If KJ keeps improving, nobody is going to have an easy time passing on us with, especially along with our pass rush. Our safeties are going to be excellent too, Danieal Manning and Glover Quin are the most underrated starting safeties in the league, and I hope it stays that way. Troy Nolan and Quintin Demps are great backups to go with that as well, they had good plays in Saturdays game. Sherrick McManis wasn't as bad as everyone on here made him out to be, he only had one "holding" call and gave up one pass I believe, but other than that he was good.

Our DL will be great again, Tim Jamison proved that he can played with our starters if JJ Watt or Antonio Smith is ever hurt. Good Solid DE. Not sure if Jared Crick played but I don't remember seeing him.

I'm really impressed with Martin, he's as good as everyone been saying. James Casey can play, and I'm looking forward to him this season along with Garrett Graham, who also had a good game. Lestar Jean finally showed me he can play and hopefully he'll keep playing as well as he did Saturday. I'd like to see him get the ball more tho. Trindon Holliday was fucking awesome on kick returns, not just his TD return but he had 2-3 other nice returns. I'm hoping for him to be our starter at KR.

Was impressed with TJ Yates, John Beck didn't play bad either, and Schaub threw an interception that was both the tackles fault. Rashad Butler didn't see the cornerback blitz and he had a free hit on Schaub while Derek Newton got destroyed by his man and he had a free hit on Schaub as well, but Schaub needs to throw that away or take the sack. We're going to be Duane Brown back and get him back ASAP if we want Schaub healthy.

Forsett was decent, had one dumb play but other than that I'm satisfied with him as our third string RB. 50/50 on Grimes, he doesn't have any cutting abilities, he's just a train. He had a TD, but I don't see him making the team. He'll probably end up on the PS along with Meggett, who IMO is a rookie version of Slaton, just needs some experiences IMO. #40 FB, was very good IMO. Seems like every time he was in there with Forsett, we ended up with a 4+ yards average. Was impressed by him.

I think that's it. Looking forward to the Niners game next week. I think Andre will be back and maybe Duane Brown? Cant remember how long Brown is out for, but we're going to need him.

The passing game shouldn't miss a beat this season as long as Matt Schaub is healthy. So many ways the Texans will be able to move the ball downfield and keep the defense off-balanced with all the bootlegs, play-action passes, roll outs, screen passes, hard runs up the gut, left and right with Foster and Tate.

I actually think this 2012 Texans team is on par talent wise with those back-to-back championship winning Denver Broncos team from 1997 and 1998 that beat the Packers and Falcons in the Super Bowl - the one Gary Kubiak was the offensive cordinator of.

Not saying Schaub is a Hall of Famer like John Elway (not even close) but he has the deadly accuracy on his deep ball to do what Elway did at the end of his career if he leans heavily on the run game to set up the pass -- Arian Foster is a Terrell Davis clone minus the short career hopefully. But if you go position by position, we're either as good or better than, when comparing the best team Kubiak was ever a part of before becoming Houston's head coach.

This has the makings of a special year for the Texans if they're able to stay healthy.
The offense and defense is loaded. The Special Teams needs to improve from last year.

I've still got that bad taste in my mouth from the 20-13 loss to the Ravens in the playoffs. 4 turnovers: Jacoby Jones fumble that handed them the lead, 3 INTs by Yates. FML, those wobbly ducks were nowhere near Schaub's tight spirals. Our defense fucken dominated with 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles on Flacco (that they fell on, blah), and they only allowed the Ravens offense to get 167 passing yards and 87 rushing yards for the entire game!!!!!! That's as great a defensive effort as a team can have in a playoff game.

Just ready to see the Texans back on the field for the regular-season and playoffs again. The big games is what gets my blood moving.

It's hard for me to get over the last game played until they play the next game that counts. September 9 against the Dolphins can't start soon enough.

Pre-season games are like a nice little snack but I'm ready for the buffet baby!!!!!
