If I know you, Broadway Danny Rose should be next on your list.

I'll get to this one soon, I'm sure.

Right now I am gonna watch Love & Death.

Just finished Love and Death, very good stuff. I loved the rapid fire Dostoevsky references.

Just watched Bananas.

Pretty good. I thought it was pretty mediocre until the last 20 minutes or so which featured some pretty funny parts. Overall a 3.5 / 5.0.

omg, reading thru all the vapid hollywood threads was worth finding this topic. i've read some of woody allen's short stories before and even did a pastiche of him. but never seen his movies. i just watched annie hall and this is what i have been looking for from cinema; mental masturbation. though i love the humor, i wish he wouldv concentrated a bit more on a cohesive aesthetics.

Manhattan has everything you're looking for and more. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it, and especially Gordon Willis' cinematography. I'm sure it'll change your mind about Allen's visual artistry.

Definitely agree with this and I also think the summation that some of Allen's movies are "mental masturbation" is 100% spot-on.

I just watched Deconstructing Harry and thought it was great.

Just finished Husbands and Wives, not bad, overall I give it a 3.5 // 5.0

I think I am becoming somewhat disenchanted with the fact that Woody keeps using these New York intellectual elites as characters. They have problems which others outside of that restrictive cliche have but it seems so distant at times.

I think if anything he's making fun of intellectuals here, as he often does (remember the scene in Annie Hall when they are waiting in line at the movie theater). It is, after all, a mockumentary, and most of the characters in the film are self-sophisticated morons.

These sorts of films are usually hit-and-miss, but I think Woody really nailed this one. It all comes down to writing. Another thing to note is the 360 character turns, where the two couples essentially switch roles by films end, making it all the more interesting structurally. I think it's one of the best films of the 1990's.

There's definitely the element of satire in this one and it is very apparent.

I don't know, I'll probably change my mind on this as I think about the movie more and more but it seems like Woody idolizes social elitism being that he frequently places himself in those environments and whatnot.

Still a very good film, though.
