Hello,

I am writing a book and I lack the artistic skill of drawings. So here is my three questons I could use some help with;

1. If I use any AI to generate an image from a sketch I made, can I use that generated image for my book without copyright infringements or whatever?

2. If I tell the AI to generate an image from scratch, from just my describing in text, can I use that image for my book or is there no difference as if it were to generate it from a sketch I made?

3. Which AI is best to use for this purpose? I have little knowledge of the current AI's roaming around,- and I've heard that mostly you just get your data stolen, is it safe to use an AI or should I not use one?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

1. If you sketch copyrighted material then put it in AI you will still be liable for infringement. Not sure if a sketch is considered "sufficient expressive elements" to allow you to copyright it though.

2. You can if it's 100% generated by AI as it has no human authorship. This will mean anyone can use that same image though

3. You would have to read the license/terms for them and see which one suits your purpose. Some do not allow you to use their services to profit or for commercial uses. Just know that it will be public domain if you do not meet the copyright offices standards of "larger human-generated work"

Thanks for this info, very helpful.

Is there any AI that is considered best to use overall? And not just for my purpose. And do you know if by using it, they could get ahold of data/info/stuff on my PC?

4o image generation is one of the best and just got released in March. From a quick google search it says OpenAI/ChatGPT allow you to use it for commercial purposes, but i'd double check if this changes when you're about to release your book. It's also good to note that some publishers require you to disclose if AI is involved as well, so you'll need to check their terms/requirements too.

AI generators on the web will be fine, or atleast they wouldn't be able to steal more than any other website. If you have to download their program to generate images then they potentially could.
