audacity like the above user mentioned is great for recording... i wouldnt go as far as saying its efficient for adding drums and such into it as would be softwares like ableton, pro tools, fruity loops, etc
they all offer free trials so you can test them out and see which one you like... you can also find free copies online of course if youre savvy but i dont recommend that fam
you'll need an audio interface to record into the software as well, and those other programs that I mentioned besides audacity will let you record into them also
