Really, it’s just too boring. Everybody in these days uses mercs to beat the game. And it’s really boring. You read the tittle - Meleemancer players 8 walk, Enchant sorc players 8, Fire Druid players 8 hardcore! But when you read topic, you see that is actually Haseen or Durga players 8 walkthrough)) I tried to find, but I never see here somebody actually beat the game by himself, without any Arabian mercenaries.

Doesn’t it look more interesting, more challenging for you to complete the game by your character without any help? What the reason to type players 8 every game and play on hardcore mode for more challenge, and in the same time to be completely dependent on the help of mercenaries?

PS If you give me any links to walks without any mercs, I will be grateful.

Yea it's called hdin and summon nec they can walk naked.
Rest of chars unfortunately will not be able to finish the game without decent gear or taking 1 year of grinding. It's just adds an extra layer of difficulty even with a merc.
You can see it as an Ingame extension of your damage. If you want to gimp yourself for extra challenge go for it but that's personal preference

I'm not sure any such playthrough exists. Come to think of it, maybe it's not a terrible idea to do a merc-less run, just to change things up. I'm not sure why you think mercs make a playthrough boring though. It's not like people are just buying a merc and standing in corners the entire game. Well, except maybe summon necros.

Inb4: using merc considered as cheating.

For me play style with merc isn’t so boring, for me, the fact, that everybody on this forum in 99% walks plays with these spearmen from Act 2, is boring. Just few people here tried to beat game with other mercs, and maybe 0,01% tried without them at all. Just few guys here made interesting walks without re-reruns. Most of people make few thousands runs to countess and Kurast, and think that’s they are cool that after 200 run they finally get all runes for another ladder runeword. Most of walks here are clones. Everybody use a2 mercs, ladder runewords and stash for one billion items. That fact is boring.

This game is old, and almost all players here don’t even want to try something new in this old game. You all here just play the same. Sometimes I think there is just one man, who posts walkthroughs here under different nicknames.)

Yeah, In d2 nobody cares about mercs, because mercenaries can’t travel with you to the next act. I’m talking about LOD. Anyway, you are trying something different. I will see ur walk. Thanks.

If you believe a mercenary-less LoD walkthrough is worth attempting, you could always pursue the endeavour yourself.

As long as it is presented in a way that makes it worth reading, surely some people frequenting this subforum will follow.

Define beat the game?

Kill Baal Hell? I bet a lot have done that without merc, because mercs without proper gear dies too fast in most hell games.
