Theres no need to run in comparability mode, i think you messed up installing d2,

i use 32 and 64 bit versions as well and a 32 bit eval copy never had problems on mine but a friend of mine had same issue had to reinstall d2 to a 2nd hard drive and set compat issues as

step 1: 2nd drive path must be short ( example. E:\Games\Diablo II )
step 2: Right click d2 properties compability check the "disable desktop composition" (second box from down)

step 3: Also, from the same tab;
run in compability mode with: "windows xp (service pack 2)"

step 4: start diablo by right click run as administrator or double click and select yes

Step 5: Enjoy

worked with no problems then i have 7 hard drives on my pc 8gb ram 3.1ghz amd quad core win 7 32bit vista 64 bit and xp pro 32 bit multi os for certain reasons but i have no problems with d2 on any version of windows i use

also check firewall to ensure d2 and d2 lod is allowed and the bnet port numbers r allowed i think its sumthing like port 6112 or sumthing like that

Try opening up your processes and see if there is already a copy running in the background.

you'll never have a compatibility mode for the OS you are running.. :wub:

Make it run as administrator and put it in XP compatibility.

If reinstalling doesn't work I can help you over remote connect...

diablo 2 lod shortcut and the exe file in the folder where its installed both must be changed to exact matching settings in compatability mode not just
the shortcut on desktop u need to goto folder where d2 is installed ( example ... c:\progam files\diablo II ) find the file named game or game.exe
right click it and change to compatability on it to.

sry i cant give any pics bc it was my friends pc not mine that i had to fix compatability i didnt have to change any settings on mine it worked from the start with no problems or errors
