I've been wanting to try brewing my own beer lately. Is it expensive to get whatever I need to start brewing? Also, where would be a good place to learn some good recipes?

Iirc, it was 100$ for elementary brewing equipment - needed to buy a kettle for brewing in and also bottles (which u can buy or recycle from old crown caps).

I started with kits which had all the ingredients in it. If u want recipes, I looked online for clone recipe. Ie u have beer in mind - google blue moon clone and u will find a variety

it is not too bad once you get all your equipment. birthdays are always good for this if your family doesnt know what to get you.

The kits range in price but you can find a decent one for ~50 $ usd. but that will make 5 gallons of beer. you can do the math.

Most Homebrew stores will have starter kits put together for sale with all the basics you need, they generally range from $100 - $250

Once you start getting more advanced, the price gets up there

it'll probly be fully cleared up in about 2-4 months, then it will take another 3 or so years to mellow out, like the sweet honey and the strong alcohol flavors stand out immensely if you drink it now, but over time they marry together to create a flavor thats not too sweet or too strong.

so what i do is i save my mead for 1 holiday every year, have a party, and drink mead. thats done on Oct 9th leif ericson day. this upcoming year will be my 4th year celebrating, and the 5th year for my blueberry mead and 4 years for my pomagranite cherry and an orange vanilla. Last year i made the strawberry mead on leif ericson day, so this year im going to bottle it

I havnt really checked the strength, i used a wine/sweet cider yeast, so id say its around 6-8%.

its drinkable after fermenting but its going to be alot better after 3 or so years depending on the complexity of the honey, like a darker honey can take up to 8 years to really reach its peak.

what i really like is the wait, like ill drink some of this strawberry mead this year for leif ericson day, then ill drink some next year, and then the year after. each year being able to enjoy how much better it is then the year before.

mmk, just ages and gets better sorta like wine. i was thinking of making a batch of mead since a co-worker has bees and bottles his honey. dunno if i still want too though :D . im not sitting with too many fermenters atm
