Drinking this right now

I'm starting to get sick so I can't smell/taste it 100% but it is incredibly complex.
All sorts of hop and malt smells, tropical fruits, citrus, pine, sweet malty (but not sickly or cloying smelling) a little biscuity and smokey as well.

The taste is more of a wee heavy/scotch ale than a double ipa/imperal ipa in my opinion.
I really don't notice the high alcohol content (9.5% I believe) maybe a little heat going down but no alcohol taste at all. I'm getting a complex range of tastes, this beer is very interesting.
Slight citrus and piney hop taste, but mostly a smoky hop taste. I'm also getting that sweet malt taste that I smelled, I can't put my finger on the exact taste, maybe strawberry and molasses.
Also getting a slight smokey and white pepper taste as well, this beer is not as bitter as I would think a strong ipa would be, and that leaves me a bit disappointed but still overall a great beer.
Honestly even though its an ipa, I think the malt flavors of this beer are what really round it out, and I'd be very interested to see what it tastes like with some age on it (reducing the hop taste but accentuating the malt flavors)

I recommend this beer for now, and definitely will be buying another 4 pack of it when I get over this cold/allergies/whatever the hell I have right now.

Had a bottle of this the other day:

OMG, was it good. Fantastic, even. Easily the best fruit beer I've ever had.

I just tried southern tier creme brule, and I thought it was really good, I definitely want to check out a few more of their beers.

tomorrow morning kuhnhenns is releasing 4D and solstice stout. Those are about to be sold out instantly, but I'm really excited to try this stout. I guess it is supposed to be their solar eclipse stout mixed with 4D and barrel aged for 3 years. Can't wait!

I've had southern tier 2xipa, unearthly, and iniquity.
unearthly as I already stated was amazing, 2xipa was really good.

iniquity was good but for the price I won't be trying it again.

but yeh southern tier is a really good brewery as far as i'm concerned.

had the Kuhnhenn raspberry eisbock 2012 during the solstice. If you guys ever get the chance to try this beer do it.
I dont even like fruit/sweet beers very much but this beer is on a whole nother level.

picked up a couple 4pk's of the 4d and solstice stout also. $30 each too...
I havnt had any of the 4Ds yet, but that solstice stout is probably my favorite stout i've ever had. 16% abv too.

how many of you are craft beer virgins ?
such a vast area of different brews and tastes that can pair well with any food.
the west coast US i feel like it a head of the east but there are new breweries every day.

whats your favorite brewery and type of beer ?

what foods do u usually eat with these brews ?

im a big fan of IPAs, but im starting to drink and enjoy more and more stouts and porters .

dogfish is always pushing the boundry.

love stone, southern tier, there's soo much out there.

so get yourself out of the big name brews and try a craft beer. you might like it.

they are a little more expensive but you get a much better taste.

interesting.... were they hard to find?
I generally go to giant eagle for craft beers, there's a craft beer/wine/cigar shop I go to occasionally too, but only because its on the way to work because frankly the selection is sadly shitty compared to giant eagle's.
I guess I need to find a better spot to buy craft beer but i'm getting off topic I think.

Kuhnhenns has limited bottle releases on special occasions because they are still kind of a small brewery, so they are pretty difficult to get. Those 4 packs are limit 1 per person, i just brought some people with me. But even still, they sold out within an hour.

I just picked up some ten fidy and I liked this beer a lot. I feel like this is my new go-to stout when i'm lookin for something nice.

Trading 3 of my kuhnhenn solstice stouts for a 2014 darklord, a bourbon county brand coffee stout, and a bible belt imperial stout. Pretty excited to try dark lord!
