your viewpoint is just simply wrong. greek and roman law had the ability to withhold elections in times of trouble because elections in the middle of war is a bad idea. "you don't switch horses in the middle of the stream" is the common idiom that people use. And wouldn't you look at that, FDR. The us did literally the same thing due to the Great Depression and WW2.
as to modern russia, you're ignoring what i said. Putin isn't being greedy exclusively, he's literally the glue holding together their country. I'm not sure if you're not aware but without a Oil deal struck with China a few years back at near cost to save their economy there likely already would be a civil war in Russia and full economic collapse. Russia has very little expendable resources, no tech sector business, no manufacturing on a modern level, a bad climate, alcoholism, and only Oil to sell to the world. The next time Russia collapses in economy they will either break into 4-5 territories or the power will be decentralized and states will rise to power much like we have.
but ya, if you think that Putin could step down and just implement democracy and everything would go ok you know literally nothing about Russia. It's just that simple.
So Russia basically only has oil to its name? You've mentioned teir reliance to oil in a previous post, i assumed they would have other means to become economical stable
A dictator usually only pushes his agenda, and all his advisors are just gonna back his agenda... Wouldn't it be better to have people who have different views take power from time to time... My thinking was that maybe someone will have a way to get them off of their reliance of oil... I mean, they're still considered a super power, is oil really the only thing they have that's beneficial?
If that's the case is it safe to say that communism set them years behind western society

Salazar fought corruption while in power, which is not the same as jailing opponents. Considering what happened to Portugal after his death, he would have done better for his country if he had killed off the aristocrats. He did not keep government funds or feed money to his cronies. He owned nothing and his heirs got nothing.
There were a handful of great dictators in Africa that followed the same trend. Egypt and Burkina Faso come to mind
So he is similar to the current Filipino president?
