I more so meant name a dictator who didn't kill off their political opponents/ ppl who opposed them / use fear to remain in power, not a dictatorship that that ran well... Obv I didn't really clarify... I mean the European monarchy could be considered a dictatorship that flourished.

You can't really compare historical political moves to modern day, we were fucking savages. Monarchs may be the most ruthless example of a dictatorship available, they passed on power based on blood rather than worthiness. And when you look at the path o the crown through most monarchs there is usually an event where the whole royal family was destroyed to take power. Dictatorships in a non-monarchy generally arise out of necessity, rather than greed, and then lead to greed afterwards. Putin for example is the glue holding his country together. He may be killing off journalists and hosting sham elections but he's also stopping the type of hysteria that we as Americans have to deal with on a 4 year basis in out political process. Given the poor economic state of Russia and the multitude of other problems a democratic shift in their political meta could result in wars, revolts of labor, bread riots, etc. Is it good to kill journalists? no, is it better than a civil war which kills millions? yes.

I think a dictatorship is always about greed really... If Putin wanted to he could setup some sort of real democratic system in Russia... If he were in favor of having a real democratic system then there will be no need for them to have a civil war don't you think? I mean, they already have fake elections, just make them real lol... Eventually they'll have someone who is truly for bettering the country instead of making a name for themselves...
