They didn't used to fight as much when my older cat was alive, but since we put him down two months ago they've been at it ever since. It used to start out as playing then it'd escalate to like real cat fights. Now it's not playing at all. They hate each other.
One cat, Rocky, is super timid and thinks the world is out to get him. Buckwheat is more of an outgoing "fuck you I do what I want" kind of cat.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get them to stop fighting?? Its starting to be hell

Alright im not sure if that'd work but you can always give it a try

put one cat in a room and put a barrier so he / she can get out

and put the other cat in a room infront of your other cat with a barrier

try to leave the bowl of food / water near the door so they can see each others as often as possible

and aftre a week try to slowly let them see each other if they start hissing / fighting pick them up and put them both back

Battle for new pack leader. Cats work as alphas the same as dogs do. Your cats arent able to come to a decision.

Sometimes if you step in and give favor to one over the other you could possibly end the debate, I've seen it done with dogs. Not sure if a cat would respond the same way.

e/ to clarify, your oder cat was probably undisputed alpha, perhaps due to your attitude in general (More tenure with you, they can sense a bond)

This actually does make perfect sense. However, its never rocky starting the fight. Rocky hisses at the sight of buckwheat because he's afraid/hates him. What do you mean step in? I'm usually stepping in in Rocky's favor because buckwheat is a dick to him. idk if spraying buck with water when he goes after him would help?

Lions have a hierarchy but it's not the same structure as canine packs and house cats are neither lion nor canine. When do you ever see conglomerations of stray cats following their alpha stray around? Small felines are typically individualistic animals, they care for their young until they are old enough to do so themselves and then they all become singular units.
