Collie seems to be a good option, but idk for German Shepherd, they have reputation to be hard to handle for a novice.
A mix ? why not, if i can find one.
You won't be disappointed sir. Good day, and good luck.

They are high energy doges but then also love to run... At a pace that Kenyans could only hope to match.
Joking aside, not a good first dog.
The Aussie Shepherd/Queensland Heeler are fantastic doges.
Loyal and incredibility hard working.
Just not around kids because they are known for biting heels.
...and herding them lol.
Especially kids they don't know.
Hate to make it sound like a hobby you can pick up and toss aside buuuut... Labs are very good starter doges.
They love everyone, are almost never aggressive, generally don't shed much and they are great with kids.
If ya do wanna keep your kids active, get a husky and have them go for a 30 minute run every day with the pup.
If you do get a purebred German Sheperd, you gotta be the alpha.
There's no getting around it.
The males especially are very protective, alert, smarter than most other doges and are still herding doges.
So yeah.
I know it all depends anyways I'm on every one of their personalities but make sure you look at the parents.
Do not get one that has a sloped back.
They end up with shitty hip problems.
PM me is ya got any questions and remember to look up specifically what each breed was bred for, the traits you see there are almost set in stone.
Solid advice

omg this is hurting my brain. im australian. theyre called a blue heeler or red heeler, aussie shepherd is a different dog. they are protective dogs and theyre smart and can run forever, aggressiveness depends on how theyre brought up like any other dog, try getting a female, less testosterone. dont bother with german shepherd, immposible not to get one with the bad hip condition and it will cost you a fortune. dont get an aussie cattle dog if you dont like barking. any medium-large dog can run 10 miles easily, like a human, take it running and it will get more stamina, golden retreiver and labradors are good friendly dogs for anyone, super easy and will love running. i have 2 australian cattle dogs, both mixes of kelpie and others bits and peices. so if you want to know more or are thinking about getting one let me know :)
Australian and New Zealand dogs are not good first dogs
