I love the fact that there is random hex in it lol.

Finished 2 of my big finals today (systems programming and discrete math).....brain is fucking sapped

but feeling a lot better about my knowledge base now compared to the beginning of the semester.

well sorry but that hex isn't random. it was theorized by a mathmatitiion to simulate the approximate location of an invertied square root
x^(1/2)

oh I know it wasn't random as in it was just in there for no reason

I meant like it was interesting to see hex in a function like that lol

I read the whole wiki on that thing. It was said to be theorized but the original value was not quite the one they use I think?

Yeah, the value is close enough. For many things in game programming the precision of the calculation isn't as important as how fast it can be done.

LOL

I personally have always felt for developers in ARPGS trying to figure out sync issues

modern example: the guys from Path of Exile..

Feeling meh now

apparently didn't do to well on my systems final

(some of the questions ask about specific files, I didn't bother pasting their contents just FYI)

Feeling pretty dumb now. Ah well.

I know I got some of this stuff wrong but he gave me a pretty bad grade on this final....

honestly, i wouldn't feel too bad about not doing well on a final about unix commands. pretty much the only thing you ought to understand from a class like that is how pipes and forks work. outside of that, everything you learn in that class can be replaced by a man page.

yeah I got out of the class with a B, which killed my cumulative 4.0 finally :[

But I *did* leave the class understanding all the cool stuff, like forks, pipes, makefile and similar systems, and a whole plethora of other interesting stuff.

I learned more from this class than pretty much any other class I've ever taken in my life I think.

again, it's something you should take with a grain of salt because this kind of material makes it easy to point at a bunch of things and say "look, i learned these things!"

whereas in more high-level classes (like... high school geometry) it's hard to exactly pinpoint the things you learned (or at least, say that they're useful), but the actual *learning* you do in those classes is far more important.

and yes, i'm actually making the case that your high school geometry class taught you more than this systems class possibly could
