feeling smug because canada outscored france in the last round of pisa tests?

france didn't really do that well when you look at the 2012 pisa results, even australia outscored france
doing better than the uk or the usa is trivial and not worth talking about

i dont see the relation with the topic subject, now if you want try ot harder list me all well know scientists or whatever nobels in the history from Canada and do a comparison with france.

waiting your list. regards

the topic subject is schools, isn't it?
and the pisa tests measure how the respective school systems compare
how school works now is the issue and how it serves the nation - not how many achievers were there in the past

in the age of the internet, people might more efficiency be able to educate themselves lol

Yes, school is huge lost of time if you only consider education efficiency, but i still prefer send my kids to school to build social life.

I have several advises to slow down education on my 5 years old kid because he will be bored at school and maybe eventually drop out if he have too much knowledge, this is what happened to me, i was strong in science but lost interest because things were going too slow at school.

The problem when things are too easy its that you don't learn to work hard, school fail adapting to the specific level of each student in a specific discipline.

No lie. A practical cooking/nutrition class which is light on the science would have been nice. The only thing I got to take was one in college where I tuned everything out because I was learning about the molecular structure of these items and gaining little practical knowledge. And I'd definitely support this since it seems like so much time is wasted in the senior year of high school on shit like debate, psychology, and random periods off.

Also, retard isn't offensive. The sensitivity train has arrived and we need to turn that fucker around.

You got that right, however it has primed our skills at posting on online gaming forums.

no, this is more of a reason to speed up his learning, not slow it down. School shouldn't always go so slowly for people that can understand things at faster rates.

i agree but where i live the public school politic is "levelling down" (unsure if the translation is correct there)

they call it a part of the "social contract" and its one of the negative draw back of left politic, even if i stand on that side for most issues

but on a positive way we probably have more mental and physical handicapped person that can work than in other countries, working is a important privilege to feel useful in society

on a slightly related note i'd say children should be forced to learn and play chess from a young age

it has links to mental number crunching capabilities

i don't if it should be forced but i confirm that chess his huge to develop so many different skills in just one game, being myself a chess teacher in the past. I am sure it would be at least as useful than maths as mandatory school discipline.

I heard that it was mandatory in Russia so i assume thats why you bring this, Russians probably have a edge on learning skills and it may have lot to do with chess.

On the other side many of my chess players friends found difficult to develop social life, some of then ended up earning there life in poker like i did for 10 years of my life.

I would vote chess as mandatory discipline just like maths for sure, don't forget that its a game witch help a lot to get child's attention and interest
