Are you trolling me? I just explained that.

Not trolling, I think it is absurd to hand over our last vestige of freedom - in the face of an increasing need for them - because you find it inconveniently dangerous.

We didn't start shooting at King George's troops with the enactment of the Stamp Act, it took "a long train of abuses and usurpations" to get us riled up to the point we took up arms. Just because we haven't considered our situation worthy of revolting en masse yet does not mean we won't come to that point. Sorry, but "eternal vigilance is the price of liberty."

Update: http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/2013/05/08/armed-march-to-d-c-will-continue-despite-police-warning/

2700 people (including active-duty police) have signed up for the march so far, and hope to achieve arrest to lay the groundwork for a Constitutional challenge to gun bans in DC.

I find it intellectually dishonest for you to hide behind the 'protection from an abusive government' excuse. If guns could make a difference, they would have done so by now. But it is clear that our society has a) moved past solving disputes with the government with guns and b ) technology has made it utterly impossible for your gun to hold its own against government's firepower.

And I'm not willing to sacrifice innocent civillians for your emotional satisfaction and irrational nostalgia.

The is no way of making this assertion positively.

Guns don't kill, people kill. Guns are tools, no different than cars; they're both incredibly dangerous when used improperly.

Cool, so now you ditch your argument and fall back on NRA propaganda. Enjoy.

I think his point is that when you said, "If guns could make a difference, they would have done so by now." It isn't a matter of if guns can make a difference, they would have made the difference by now. It is a matter of if enough people have decided to use such a tool to attempt to make a difference . I think someone made the point earlier that, yes, we have an abusive government. Yes, they disregard many civil liberties. However, we have not made it to the point where armed rebellion has been deemed necessary. Whether or not this hypothetical situation will occur and how effective it would be would be a fine topic of discussion IMO.
