I still want to know why the copyright industry is allowed to manipulate and lie about its losses and the effects of piracy.

Skimmed through the article.
They aren't reporting false numbers.
The issue is potential bias in their forecasts.

Let me ask you something.
Do you even understand the article? Do you understand the issues with the model?

So why exactly won't we have more games like Skyrim? The game made a shitload of money on PC and became the fastest selling game in Steam history, despite a pirated version being available BEFORE release and despite skyrim having no multiplayer component or anything at all, really, to encourage users to buy rather than pirate. If that's not the perfect example to show how good games fare in the face of piracy, then I don't know what is.

Yes, and most games that have high budget costs are not making a lot of money. Games as good as Skyrim are becoming much rarer than they used to be.

Nope, in the last one year piracy suddenly became too much for the pc gaming industry.
Am i the only person who does not lament the loss of unoriginal console ports?
The publishers abandoning pc for consoles to make more money has allowed pc developers to kickstart the games they WANT to make, instead of focusing on what will sell the most to keep greedy publishers happy.
List of games i liked/am looking forward to:
Loved:
Terraria (indie)
Path of exile (indie)
Legend of grimrock (Indie)
The Witcher (indie)
StarDrive (indie)

Looking forward to:
Grim dawn (indie)
Torment 2 (indie)
Wasteland 2 (indie)

List of games i looked forward to that sucked:
Diablo 3
Heroes of might and magic 6
Farcry 3
Final fantasy 14
Guildwars 2

Now why should i give a fuck that the big companies are moving to consoles?

gotta agree with this.
And kickstarter doesn't just help them make games they want, but games gamers want to play. far cry 3 was terribly generic, and I've been over Bethesda for some time. Skyrim did nothing for me

The developer doesn't give a fuck? They're the only ones who do give a fuck it looks like.

That's what's great about my pirating -- nobody gives a fuck about people downloading Charlie Chaplin movies and vintage horror lol.

I think there's definitely a legitimate argument that pirating fucks over media developers but I can imagine it'd be hard to come up with a solid figure on that.

The information is pretty much falsified as companies like to use countries where they do not even offer their games at the same time, sometimes months after NA/EU/JP releases(staggered releases are terrible) , or altogether skip over certain countries because there is a track record of "piracy". Aint piracy if it is not offered.

Also, places like Brazil (often skipped over by publishers due to "piracy") often see our 60$ game at 100-120$ local currency due to taxes and fees.

Publishers want to use false information to punish their customers, and if they want to abandon pc gaming for consoles and they shove a pipe up their rear so be it.

When ALL of Square enix titles of late have "failed" (tomb raider BEST seller of the entire franchise, hitman, and sleeping dogs) with their 2+ million sales (1.7m sleeping dogs), then From software relishes in its success and thanks their community for supporting them for their 2.3 million when demon souls STILL succeeded with only like 300k sales, it shows what is going on here.

Bloated companies are dying, and want to blame everything on everyone else, and everyone else being to consumer. Be it a paying, or one that they are unwilling to extend a hand to to allow them to BUY their game.

Cant say i disagree.

Skyrim was garbage compared to morrowind, just another console port with good graphics and shallow story and gameplay.

They are not reporting false numbers?
In 2011, the copyright industry reported losses higher than the gdp of 10 states.

I often tell folks "if you've played one Bethesda title, you've played them all."

ITT people try to justify not paying for things that someone worked hard to create.
