i have yet to hear how community notes are bad.

when Elon gets community noted on his own website the left cheers, when facebook follows suit its big tech collusion. how exactly its this more collusion than big tech literally moderating in line with FBI directives? absurd.

Oh because it's overwhelmed by fkin idiots who like to use community notes to harass and/or spread disinfo.

It's not a form of moderation or "fact-checking"... it's just a way for certain "approved" accounts to get their response to your post put right underneath it.

meta follows in the footsteps of twitter in removing fact check moderation and instead using community notes to tag misleading posts.

and in a shock to literally no one liberals are upset. how dare we have an actual user driven consensus on what is true and instead hand all power to faceless hidden figures.

Imagine being mad that there were literal fact checkers, but instead we have Jim Bob, hyped on mountain dew and whiskey, chiming in with community notes to let us know that the L.A. fires were actually caused by laser beams from space.

Oh boy, can't wait.

When brother and sister are arguing on Facebook, should somebody completely unknown to them ban, suspend, or remove the posts of one of the people on facebook, on their own wall, based on some idiot's biased opinion of the argument, and their slanted so-called "fact check"?

Here's a fact check for you genius: No police officers were killed on January 6th at the Capitol. Another fact: While a few people (Trump supporters) died due to medical issues (heat stroke, heart failure, etc.) as happens in many massive crowds, only ONE person was killed by another human being on January 6th, 2021 at the Capitol. That person was named Ashley Babbitt, was unarmed, in a helpless position, and shot without provocation by a Capitol Police Officer who suffered no consequence, and had been noted previously as mishandling his firearm, even pointing it directly at Congress members.

Now, nobody needs "fact checks" in conversations with their friends and families. And if you'll notice, where "fact checks" might actually be useful? Such as corporate claims, government claims? They don't seem forthcoming. Nor are government or corporate accounts banned or suspended for outright lying or propagandizing people.

Fuck fact checkers, kiddo, and grow up. Words are just words.

You have no idea how the community notes model works. Notes are upranked not by majority vote, but by users from different sides of the political spectrum agreeing on them. This facilitates statements which are factually correct or add relevant context, irrespective from partisanship.

The model of course has its own weaknesses, but "can be gamed by simple brigading" or "at the mercy of potentially hyperpartisan mods" are not among its vulnerabilities.
