All religions say this I understand.  Live life good, not bad.  Positive and not negative.  I get that.

To keep on the topic-   Do all religions say death is an acceptable punishment for mocking the Lord or only the bible and this Elisha is jeered story?

Quote (El Shadday @ Jun 9 2013 01:41pm)
death is not a punishment!
there is no eternal punishment.
yes there is repair of faults committed (law of cause and effect)
death is the return of the spirit to your home world.

edit
Most people prefer to believe in eternal punishment, sin, etc ...
is a selfish point of view, because only a few will be saved.
believing in a Creator perfect in all attributes, it will never happen.
have every opportunity to evolve morally and intellectually.
we call it perfect justice, kindness and mercy.

I've read this now for a couple day and still having trouble understanding how El Shadday's response actually answers my question.

Yea- all you Bible followers can continue to mock me and point and make fun at me and my questions. Typical of those who think they are better than others.

I'm asking honest questions why death is an acceptable punishment for mocking the Lord.

My point is, some people believe in a higher power but maybe not exactly the same believe as those who only read the Bible.

"....congratulations on being the 100th poster to reference these verses andthough I doubt you are sincere in your inquiry I'm gong to post some scholarly opinions on those Scriptures !"

And you actually believe your original post isn't an insult?

...I actually believe it was not an insult . That Scripture literally has been posted way too many times to count on this forum and your inclusion of that silly stick figure cartoon of course makes me doubt your sincerity . Did you even bother to read the 3 scholarly commentaries I provided for you ?

How is me asking questions an attempt to embarrass myself?

if you approach the bible with an open mind, able to tell the good fruit from the bad, you will learn much from the morals inside. while if you approach the bible with ideals of destruction or ridicule, the parables will only lead you in circles, making you look confused and that much more obivious and immoral in your attacks on the bible.

I'm trying to have an open mind. Difficult to tell good from bad sometimes.

I also do not believe questioning what is said in the bible is not having an open mind and being immoral.

Like I said originally, the stick figure I found after searching Google. Yea...it made me chuckle and a child drew it.

I've read what you posted multiple times. Much of it only leaves me more confused., for example this part below.

which are fiercest, and especially when bereaved of their whelps, as these might be; the wood seems to be near to Bethel, perhaps in the wilderness of Bethel, of which see ( Joshua 8:15 ) ( 18:12 ) , and Reland F25 thinks it is the same with the wood of Ephraim, ( 2 Samuel 18:6 ) , though the Jews, to increase the miracle, say F26 there was no wood at all, and, if there was, that there were no bears in it; but though those creatures are mostly in northern countries, yet there were of them in Judea, see ( 1 Samuel 17:34 )

and tare forty and two children of them;
it seems there were more than these; but such a number of them they tore to pieces and destroyed; which was very extraordinary, and was an awful punishment for their wickedness, which they knowingly and willingly committed, and of their parents in them, who had trained them up in such impiety, and put them upon it, and sent them out to do it.

...and this is where proper study of Scripture comes into play . Yanking a citation or two out of the context in which it was intended is not going to be very enlightening and it takes many , many years to understand just the basics . There are multiple commentaries on every single verse of the Bible and learning from them is a discipline .

So does that mean you believe the Adam and Eve story?

Do I believe in Creation? Yes, or I'd hardly be Christian.

So does that mean you believe evolution is wrong because you are a Christian?

(edit)
Since you believe in creation (Adam and Eve) why did Adam and Eve defy "God" by eating the fruit?
