I never understood the point of pirating music/movies/...
It's so much easier just to steal it from the store.

Red Dead Redemtion hasn't got a PC release date annoucement and never will, because Rockstar said it will not happen. Rockstar publishes their own games, Take-Two owns them but does not interfere. It is Rockstar's decisions not to release PC versioins.

Another built for console game that would suck on pc.

So much this.

People who pirate games should be forced to purchase the game.

And then as a punishment, also forced to buy whatever EA's most recent game is.

Almost all PC games are console ports. Skyrim was, but Skyrim on PC is the best version. Games like that are dying. We won't have games like Skyrim that are just as good on the PC if not better than they are on console.
The ports of GTA III-Vice City-San Andreas were just as good as the console version. GTA IV was not. GTA V won't even get a PC release. Blame piracy for a game that unlike the Call of Duty's of the world has taken 5+ years of development, crafting, and originality, but won't get on the PC because of piracy.

So why exactly won't we have more games like Skyrim? The game made a shitload of money on PC and became the fastest selling game in Steam history, despite a pirated version being available BEFORE release and despite skyrim having no multiplayer component or anything at all, really, to encourage users to buy rather than pirate. If that's not the perfect example to show how good games fare in the face of piracy, then I don't know what is.

Nope, in the last one year piracy suddenly became too much for the pc gaming industry.
Am i the only person who does not lament the loss of unoriginal console ports?
The publishers abandoning pc for consoles to make more money has allowed pc developers to kickstart the games they WANT to make, instead of focusing on what will sell the most to keep greedy publishers happy.
List of games i liked/am looking forward to:
Loved:
Terraria (indie)
Path of exile (indie)
Legend of grimrock (Indie)
The Witcher (indie)
StarDrive (indie)

Looking forward to:
Grim dawn (indie)
Torment 2 (indie)
Wasteland 2 (indie)

List of games i looked forward to that sucked:
Diablo 3
Heroes of might and magic 6
Farcry 3
Final fantasy 14
Guildwars 2

Now why should i give a fuck that the big companies are moving to consoles?

Piracy just makes it so publishers and developers have to work harder to get people to buy, therefore producing better content.

Better than a stagnant market of shitty games.

I own those games on PC, they're no worse than the console versions. GTA IV on the other hand, is much worse. Rockstar gave up because of piracy. GTA V will be easily the best game that comes out this year, and it will not be on the PC because of piracy. The PC industry is dying because of piracy. It's a serious problem, and the old excuses that it doesn't hurt have been proven wrong so hard in the last couple years. Why do big budget games have to appeal to a wider audience now? Because piracy will sap your revenues so you need to sell more copies. Bioware fell victim to this big time. Call of Duty 4 sold massive amounts, and they could have done so much with the series, but the threat of piracy forced them to keep throwing out the same game year after year.

One of my favourite series of all time, Mechwarrior should have been revived into a real series, but piracy means publishers are afraid of signing developers on. This meant instead of MW5, we got an online game in the mold of World of Tanks. Still a good game, could have been so much more if we didn't live in the Age of (Digital) Piracy. Jordan Weissman has had to resort to Kickstarter to fund his games now (Which he's doing with Shadowrun), but he shouldn't have to do that. He should be able to get a publisher to help him. But it won't happen when the threat of piracy makes it non-viable.

There is some "artists" who make films who encourage piracy, but universally, every person who works in the video game industry condemnns piracy. Doesn't matter if he works for a mega publisher like EA with thousands of employees, or indie developers with two people. All think piracy is damaging the industry. And they're right, all the facts support this.

The arguments for piracy rely on cases within the film, music and TV industry, but forget that the industry most affected is video games.

I still want to know why the copyright industry is allowed to manipulate and lie about its losses and the effects of piracy.
