Lets just force the doctors to work for free and pay for surgical equipment out of pocket then.

This is more or less what already happens. When somebody can't afford care it gets either given for free by the hospital system or written off on taxes or both.

It would be better to just bring this shit above board and eat the cost as a society so the individuals and hospitals affected don't have their financials ruined in addition to society eating the cost.

It's funny that literally every criticism I've ever seen of "socialized medicine" applies more to our own system. Wait times? We have literal infinite wait times for the uninsured. Rationing of care? Again, we ration care based on insurance. Healthcare outcomes? We're more or less in line with everybody else, and often below.

We recently had a job opening in a local small town for a pediatrician at 1.8 million dollars for three years.

That's 400k USD per year. Not too shabby.

Thats way more than american pediatricians make. Theyre one of the lowest paid medical specialties here.

Paying out of pocket as a foreigner at a hospital that is subsidized largely by tax payer funds doesn't make the hospital any less reliant on tax payer funds. I can go there and get treatment without paying a dime out of pocket because i already pay into the provincial insurance program that hospital charges to for most of it's patients.
