If this was true then I should've been a gay-hating, racist conservative in my teens.  Oops, I guess I forgot.

I think he makes a very strong point on the bolded.  Much of what I hear (and obviously I'm biased) from the average conservative is about things like preserving freedom and getting rid of socialism.  Well, what exactly do those mean?  Is allowing gays to marry more freedom or less freedom?  And why is the word socialism bad?  We have things like Medicare and Social Security but those aren't bad things according to conservatives.  Our roads are socialist, but I don't see conservatives complain about that.

Sure, the populist right is largely ignorant, the left is just as guilty.

So young people who are conservatives are naive and uninformed, but young people who grow up smoking pot and love the Colbert report are grown up and well-informed, gotcha.

You have to admit, it's pretty funny when he was used in such a shameless way.

Yeah, i mean I'm not saying it's bad to be a liberal, I found myself to be aggressively conservative through my teenage years only to find myself changing over time, but to talk about how naive you were at 13 as if by 17 you have it all figured out is probably more naive.

I think most highly educated people are liberal...most professors and people with phd's, in my experience, are liberal. I'm sure someone can google this. The only prominent exception I can think of would be economics phds who are generally conservative. I can't think of another discipline that is notoriously conservative.

And then you have Billy Bob and Jethro who love their guns and think the goverment should stay out of their lives so they can drive their atvs down the highway and canoodle with their cousins.

Stereotypes maybe, but I think there's a partial truth to liberals being at least more educated then conservatives.
