Land doesn't vote. Canada has an urban population over 80%, the large majority of which would vote democrat. The "country folk" don't really like Trump either and a good chunk of them would also be voting democrat. You'd be adding ~55 permanent EC votes to democrats (more if provinces and territories are split).

u think there's any chance Pierre can make progress on housing and stagnant wages? any chance of deportations of foreign nationals?

He'll probably go through with expelling those with expired student permits, but there's not much he can do with those that have a legal status here, even if that's a refugee status. Closing the floodgates will help though, we can't cope with 500,000 newcomers each year.

Slowing immigration should help curb the housing crisis, but cities need to facilitate construction and deliver more permits. I hope he'll make good on his promise to cut GST for new homes and hopefully add incentives.

As inflation slows down, salaries should pick up to pre-2021 trends especially if we invest in our industries. Obviously 25% tariffs would have a negative impact in sectors where we're in competition with the USA, so it'll come down to his party's ability in negotiating with Trump.

Gut feeling that Energy is going to be a big bargaining chip for Canada.

Since he doesn't want your cars, wood, milk etc.

There's a lot of issues that pre-date Justin that are now showing their ugly heads because there's been a significant population boon via immigration under the current party.

Canada has had horrible public infrastructure plans since the late 80s and 90s. Minimal investment or design around public transit systems, grids , etc. pretty fragile infrastructure.

I don't think things necessarily would have been significantly different if Conservatives held the last 9 years just like I don't think the USA would be in a much different spot if Republicans held on for another 4 years in 2020.

All politicians around the world the world are bought. They serve the same masters and follow the same agenda while offering a different flavor to keep dividing people in multiple groups so these groups fight against each others instead of going at the rich. As long as you divide the peasants, rich people are safe which is why Luigi was made an example of. So people don't dare go at the rich.

This is the main reason the system spend so much money on influencers and entertainers. To keep the mass entertained so they don't start thinking bout the fact they're corporate slaves in a system imposed on em.

cant see how americans would want this. canada has 5 million temporary residents and a huge amount of terrorists/extremists in the country and chinese foreign nationals who are loyal to china.

further, canada leans a lot more left than the US which would mean a significant voter base for democrats, they wouldn't need to import millions more illegal immigrants to win elections if canadians are given free right to mobilize within the US. can't imagine republicans would want an additional 20 million or so voters that could potentially turn the tide of power in the US for centuries.

imo, this is a negotiation tactic and pressure that trump is placing to force an election. he does not want to deal with trudeau or the liberals and give them any wins for the upcoming election. jd vance is friends with pierre and jamil. trump is probably thinking that if he does this for the canadian conservatives, they will concede some concessions in trade etc. as payment including revamp immigration + border security.

america doesn't need to take over or annex canada. we trade with them willingly and they are our largest trading partner.

no but he can end refugee benefits - i.e. put a cap on refugee benefits to 2-3 years and then none. there is no reason why any refugee should be getting benefits for life.

if i were pierre, id cap refugee #s to 15k per year, cap benefits to 2 yrs, and thats it. curb demand for our country's social net and people will not come here for it.
