Forum Gold does not expire and doesn't matter how long you are inactive for. The fg will always be there (and available to use) when you come back.

I would also recommend trying it from a mobile device or tablet if you have one available. Make sure you have pop-ups disabled as well.

Considering all of the things you've tried you must have an extension blocking javascript. Javascript being disabled or a extension blocking it is the only way I can see this not working.

Disable all of your addons or simply uninstall and do a fresh install.
